Was trying to plug-in my External hard drive, but I didn't get a pop-up asking to view folders.
Opened my computer, and my computer froze.
Tried the hard drive on diff comps and on an XP ( I'm running vista ) the same problem, except on XP it said usb device not recognized.
I doubt there's anything wrong with the usb wire, as I tried it on my printer and it worked perfectly.
Opened device manager, USB ports say i got a USB Mass Storage device which is working properly...
I got no clue whats going on...

i have a problem with mine occaisonnally its v important to connect in right order for me is turn on the drive with the usb connected to the drive then wait a few seconds for the drive to spin up and then plug it in.

Tried that, but to no avail lol.
Another thing I noticed. When my computer freezes, if i unplug the hard drives wire from the usb, my computer goes back to normal. -
I have had the problem, and it is related to the connection inside the external. Just open the external (slide the one part over the other) and then make sure that the harddrive is connected properly to the interface adaptor. Than put it back together and it should work

any idea how to open it
Don't wana break anything while attempting anything from my imagination... -
Nvm, got it open.
Now what wire are you talking about exactly.. ? -
Their should be a usb to sata hub on the back of the drive. Just take the harddrive out. (remove the two screws which attach the adaptor to the harddrive caddy. Then slide the harddrive out. Clean the contacts ith rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and let the alcohol dry.
Then put the asembly back together and it should work. If necessary you may have to replace the sata to usb hub/adaptor, cause they tend to fail pretty quick.
I hope you can get it to work.
