I just purchased the My Book premium v the Standard edition and the only difference is that it includes Back-Up Software. This software backs up whenever you want, and adds whatever you may have added to the folders since your last back-up. BUT DO I REALLY NEED THIS? You can't even access the back-up files, they are only VALID when you need to restore them in case of asystem crash, unless I'm wrong.
If you want to back up by using the hard drive feature, yu just copy/paste the files. But I can do that with the standard which is cheaper. Im confused if I should return it for the standard.

The backup software should allow you to restore them whenever you like, just like you had the options to checkmark what to backup, you should be able to checkmark what you want to restore, it really depends on what you are looking to do with it - If you are looking to backup data to it for a period of time without access than this is fine, if you are looking to back up pics/docs you plan to edit and recopy over then I would just do copy/paste or you can use Windows backup (depending on version)
    Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>backup
Also the difference between the essential and premium versions is the fact that premium comes with USB 2.0 / Firewire and allows you to daisy chain other USB externals together - the essential is ONLY usb 2.0 -
    hope that helps

Well my laptop doesnt have firewire, and the premium is pointless if I cant view my files. THe standard, I can eaisly copy/paste (my way of restoring documents). I think its a rip-off
