If you read the whole article, these bugs dont really bite. We would have boycotted Intel if it was that severe. So far im happy with my C2D's.

Another reason why ES cpus are more prone.

Engineering sample. Think of them as BETA test chips for experimental, testing, reviewing purposes. They are flawed chips since they are incomplete, some stepings dont even have a temp monitor.

They are all over eBay for cheap, its actually illegal since it is Intels property and its not for resale. Try to buy an OEM or Retail chip instead.

Most of these ES chips usually function just as well as a regular chip, though they are more prone to failure and come with no manufacturer warranty. If it dies after the sellers DOA warranty, $$$ down the drain with no return.

Its usually the same for OEM units as well, as the one's being sold online won't be covered by the OEM/ODM, but only by the reseller, who at most, will provide a 6-month warranty.

Intel's 3-year processor warranty is fine, never bought a retail cpu, so no idea how easy it is to get a rma issued for a faulty cpu.

ES CPUs are usually fine, and yeah, these are prototypes/beta-versions, and still in the developing stage, but these are the chips that have the multiplier and VIDs unlocked for sure. QS CPUs are perfectly fine, and identical to the CPUs sold in boxes or those that come installed in machines. And literally cost half as much as a Retail CPU, and significantly less than an OEM CPU, and most of them being sold on ebay carry a month's warranty or a week's DOA warranty.

A CPU can be stressed (hard!) using orthos/linpack for the first few days when bought without a good warranty, to check if it has any sort of errors....and if it does RMA it or return it as DOA.

EDIT: BTW, I didn't read the article [IMG]
