My HDD in my Lenovo T61 notebook has started 'clicking'. The 'clicking' varies from 1 to 4 click (with one click every second) and then take a break, varying from a few seconds to several hours.

It something it has begun doing within the last two weeks and I haven't installed anything og made any changes which should cause it.

Also I have 28 GB of free storage on my HDD out of 183 GB. Is it the HDD which is starting to fail ? I can't feel any difference in performance.

The notebook is about 6 months old. What should I do ?

    Regards,
    Jakob Laursen

The harddrive will make clicking noises, but usually when that happens the harddrive actuator arm is moving to the idle space on the harddrive.

If you are worried about your harddrive, download and install hdtune. It will let you see the S.M.A.R.T. values of your drive. If your drive has anything highlighted in red, I suggest replacing the drive.

If the S.M.A.R.T. readings are fine, and the drive just all of a sudden started to get louder, you may want to download hdtune pro or something similar, where you can adjust the AAM settings on your harddrive

try using quiethdd and see if it goes away. If it does, it's the APM.

question, will enabling these features make it go away all the way? will they affect the hdd speed?

i think its pretty ridiculous how crappy QC is on these HDDs.

quiethdd does not affect the hard drive speed negatively.

Sounds to me like the hard drive is going. I would backup and replace drive as soon as you can.

If it is cover under warranty I would call support.
