    Hi guys!

Today I seem the be unable to boot my laptop. FYI, before that , I was installing Power4Gear, and before that I uninstalled norton and installed ESET Smart Security 4. While installing P4G, it crashed, and BSOD'd. Now, everytime I try to boot, it says "no boot device found". I tried to select my HDD through the Esc key while starting my lappy, but no luck. It also did not bring any recovery disks with the laptop.

    Any ideas?

So the HD shows up in BIOS or no?

If it shows up in BIOS, you might be in luck and all that was corrupted was the boot loader. In that case all you need access to is a Windows Setup DVD.

If it is not detected in BIOS, then that is more serious.

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
Yes, it shows in the BIOS. But, unfortunatly, there was no Windows Setup DVD.
Is there another way to get it solved? Maybe change the HDD?

    What operating system is it?

Id say the bootloader just got corrupted too but "no boot device found" isnt the usual error you will get if it was.

Yeah. If you're using Vista or Win 7 you can boot off your Win 7 DVD and then choose the repair computer option. It usually does a great job of fixing issues like that.

Okay for one: ASUS warranty does not cover software issues. ASUS will probably reimage your hard drive and ship it back to you.

If you have Vista/7 for future reference, hit F8 right after you hit the power button to power on your laptop, go to option Repair my computer, and launch the start up repair. Sometimes when removing stuff or modifying important system files, they get corrupt. No reason to lose your laptop for such a simple matter.

Guys, how could I put a new system partition, if I couldn't even boot it ? I press power button, and then I get stuck with a message saying "boot device not found etc etc ". Even if I pressed F8, the same thing would appear over and over. My HDD was dead. :( I tried everything I could, and the only solution was to change my HDD. And the only way to do it without voiding the warranty, was to send it to asus.

If it cant detect boot device then hdd is most likely dead... Assuming you have the g73 (which hosts the seagate momentus hdd's), the hdd's in them arent terribly reliable and are prone to overheating. If it is dead then they will probably replace free of charge.

Well no, if BIOS sees the drive but does not see a boot device, the SATA controller on the motherboard could be defective, resulting it the system not seeing the drive. But it's odd that the BIOS will still see it. Could be signs if a failing drive.

You could have pulled the drive out, and connect it to a working computer and see if you see the hard drive.

I thought about it, but when I told the "open my HDD case up" my father went "ROFLCOPTERZ U IZ VOID ZE WARRANTY FKEOFLALLSV RAAAAGE", and I didn't want to void my warranty... Who knows , I might have another problem, and the warranty would help me...

And this is why you always make sure you buy a computer with backup discs, even if you have to pay for the disks.

This isn't a tech support issue. I'd suggest you boot from an Ubuntu LiveCD to access your data and back it up. It's easy, all you have to do is go to BIOS and change the boot order to boot from a CD disk. If you want to stay with Windows 7, get a backup disk. Good lord, you can even download a legal copy of Windows 7 these days and legally activated it with your product key.

You don't void the warranty by replacing the HDD - unless, of course, there is a sticker on the HDD caddy which indicates that you'd void the warranty. No likely, though.
