Hello,
Today someone walked past my home my dog naturally wanting to protect me jumped off the chair and my ethernet cable was forcefully pulled out by his weight.
The port is still intact but the metal part that allows the cable to slot in has been bent and its sticking out the port. I dont know where to get another part like this, but its basically the metal part that outlines the port that allows the cable to slot in properly.
My laptop is under warranty, i also have a few dead pixels on my screen and a keyboard issue however this is the only laptop i have and i need it everyday which means i may have to pull out for another laptop but i wanted to wait for maxwell to release before doing so.
Please help me.

^ Here is an example and you can clearly see the metal part that structures the port this is what has broken and bent.
Cheers.
I can take pictures of my actual ethernet port in HD if you like but i dont know how to post them up on here.

Perhaps you can bend it back? Most Ethernet ports are attached to the motherboard, so you'd need another board to get it working. They do make USB Ethernet ports that I'm sure you can pick up on eBay for not much money.

The port doesn't look badly damaged on the photo. Perhaps you can crop the relevant part out of a higher resolution photo and post it so we can better see the damage.
Usually it's the plastic clip on the cable that breaks. So once you get the port fixed then you may want to break this clip off so that next time the cable can easily pull out.

Other than as suggested with bending it you may actually need to break it off and then insert a modded plastic plate you can glue in. Doing this though may eliminate your warranty. Other option is if the power, IEE and Ethernet are a daughter board and getting a new one.
Look at it this way, better a broken plug than a system flying across the room that smashes to bits against a wall. -
Wont be doing it straight away though, i find it hilarious that so much force and the ethernet cable itself id still intact but my laptop port has been mangled haha. -
well, if you can disassemble it then krazy glue seem to be a good option. Otherwise, I guess you can find a way to "make" the Ethernet cable hang in there.
you should check if it is functional damaged, but doesn't look like it.
another option is go wireless. -

The contacts look fine in the photo.
Did you try holding the cable in and see if there's a connection? If there isn't then that could indicate that the connection from socket to board is damaged.

Quote try to reassemble all with glue if doesn't work buy an ethernet to usb cable

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Buy a new dog.
In all seriousness, find out if the ethernet port is on a daughterboard, as they are far cheaper to replace than the actual motherboard.alexhawker likes this. -
It should be an easy solder job. It might be more than you want to spend, but I'm sure your reseller can make arrangements to get the port replaced. I know it's not a daughterboard, it's soldered on directly to the board. But any reasonably skilled solder technician should be able to replace the port. Sager may charge $100-$150 but it will be a clean fix. Personally I would do what others have suggested and see if you can get that part removed that's broken, as it looks like everything else is intact.
My dog broke my ethernet port dont know what to do.
