Hey guys, I bought a intel 510 120GB SSD recently, and was expecting the reading speed to be what the retail box has suggested. However, instead of 450MB/s , I am only getting 280MB/s. Why's that?

I am running window 7 home 64bit and got the new Sony vaio F2 series.. So I am guessing it should have the sata 3 interface.

Thx in advance for anyone who can help me in figure out what's limiting my SSD in reaching it's potential. Thx again!

I think around 250mb/s to 280mb/s is the SATAII limit you need SataIII to go much further than that.

are you sure it is SATA 3 ? That would be the first thing I would check.

i think it is not a SATA 3 equipped PC, the bottleneck is the SATA controller :(

You mean the Intel 510 is SATA 3? You must have the SSD connected to a SATA 3 interface on your motherboard to get speeds above 300MB/s

Why don't you just let us know the exact model of your sony and let google do the job for us instead of doing these back and forth guess work ?

Sandy Bridge you mean? :) :p
Yeah the motherboards have SATA 3. But they also have SATA 2. Maybe the SSD is connected to the SATA2 ?
Listen to chimpanzee. Post the model

it seems that this one use PM55 chipset(I am a bit surprised as I thought Sandy Bridge needs 6 series). If that is the case, it is SATA 2 unless there is other additional controller chip there.

Yeah me too. I thought Sandy Bridge was HM65. Intel homepage says 2nd gen i7 for HM65 and Intel core 7 processor for HM55. If i click on "Intel core 7 processor" i get SB CPUs listed. WTH..

I personally don't use any such thing but only saw hwinfo being mentioned in other posts. IOW, that is the only thing I know, not that it is better than others.

Okay, i have ran the AIDA64 thingy and founded out that the Motherboard Chipset is Intel Cougar Point HM65, Intel Sandy Bridge.

So is it a SATA 2 or SATA 3?
    Thx everyone for helping again!

it is the 6 series so should be able to support SATA 3. Does AIDA64 tell you what port your SSD is connected to and whether it is SATA 3 ? IIRC, there are two SATA 3 and two SATA 2 port for the 6 series.

you know.. i just realized something really strange.
I have been using the HD Tune Pro for the Benchmark Read/Write Test and the Result for read seem to only fluctuate around 270-300.
However, when i used the Benchmark Read/Write Test, i am able to get Over 400MB/s.
So.. then i decided to try another benchmark program and it also gave my read speed for being over 400MB/s.
I am guessing the problem is now solved then. I probably just used a bad program or something. Thank you everyone for your help. I am now more relief u know that i am taking full advantage of this SSD of mine. Thx again! I truely appreciate everything :)

Must have been because of the block size set in HD Tune.

Yep your SSD is working like it should and you are getting the speeds you should expect. Here is what HEXUS got with their 120GB 510 with CDM :)
