Thats simply all there is to it...
i have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW11S, it turns on fine, works fine, but when i move it it simply either turns off, or the screen freezes...
I have no worries about taking it apart to look for the loose connection somewhere, but if someone knows exactly what it is then it may save me time...

put back together, turned it on and it booted up... the minute i picked it up the screen went black again :(
machine is still on, but whether the computer itself has frozen i dont know, i thought it couldve been just the screen but whpo knows :S

Do you still have a warranty on it?

Does this happen when running on AC power (with battery installed)?
Does this happen when running on AC power (without battery installed)?
Does this happen when running on just battery power?

The screen goes black but computer keeps running? When you took it apart how did the cable going from your mainboard to the screen look? In many laptop designs it goes through the hinge of the screen and rubbing against the hinge makes the cable get worn down.

Does moving the screen back and forth do anything

If the laptop is running on battery and turns off when moved I would guess that the battery is loose.

Dude, don't move it then. :p

Actually, this sounds very much like a problem that afflicted T4x series Thinkpads. In those computers the solder holding the GPU would crack causing the electrical connections with the GPU to be broken. One of the symptoms was the computer crashing when moved.

As far as I know the GPU in your Sony isn't prone to this problem, but it does seem like you may have this problem with one of the chips in your computer.

Does it have a free fall sensor? There are many reports of the free fall sensor software going berserk, causing Windows to behave erratically.

I had that type of issue w/ an old Dell Inspiron 12" laptop (the wire to the inverter was exposed and would short or something).

Second vote for at looking at the freefall sensor. Depending on your hardware, the sensor could be either built into the laptop itself or the hard drive. See if there are drivers on the website that you can update, or if you can disable the protection via the control panel.
