it was working fine a couple of days ago. then i turned the computer on the next day and for some reason it is not working. i went to the control panel and clicked on the mouse icon. went to the touchpad and it said that this device is working properly. obviously its not cause i can't use it.

    any help would be appreciated.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to see if that works. I am not sure if acer gives you a driver CD or if you need to find them on their website.

Once you find the driver go into the control panel and click system. Then click on the tab that says hardware. Finally click on the device manager button and find where it says Mice and other pointing devices on the list. Right click the touchpad one and click uninstall. Then just reinstall the new one.

    See if this works.

It might of been turned off, is there any hotkeys that do that on your notebook?

I agree with Cori -- there's probably a button or key combo which enables/disables the touchpad. However, if this didn't happen while you were using it, but you noticed it after booting, it might be a different issue.

    +1

Why they make a hotkey for disabling the mousepad I don't know. Probably so idiots like me can accidently hit it and think the things broken. :p

Some people (like me!) prefer to have the touchpad disabled while using an external mouse. In my case, this is done through the driver software (it automatically disables the touchpad when a USB mouse is detected), but apparently in your case it's manual.
