    MyDigitalSSD

    Hey Folks,

We’re going to try something new here. MyDigitalDiscount submitted their new MyDigitalSSD BP3 256GB mSATA SSD and their new MyDigitalSSD USB 3.0 External 2.5" SATA / 50mm mSATA SSD Enclosure Combo to our editors for review. In addition, they wanted to do something fun for the NotebookReview community. So they offered us a second MyDigitalSSD BP3 256GB mSATA SSD and mSATA to USB 3.0 Enclosure Combo Kit to give it away to someone in the NBR Forums. And that someone could be you!

So how do you win? Simply answer this question:

How would you use the MyDigitalSSD BP3 256GB mSATA SSD and mSATA to USB 3.0 Combo Kit?

The winner will be chosen at random from comments posted below that answer the question. Comments that don’t answer the question will be deleted. One comment submitted per person. Multiple answers from same person disqualifies all from that person.

And if that isn’t enough MyDigitalDiscount is offering NBR members a collection of discount coupons for their mSATA to USB 3.0 Combo, Smart Series and BP3 mSATA SSDs

    A word from our sponsors:

In the past 2 years the MyDigitalSSD Bullet Proof Series of SSD has become synonymous with words like Reliable, Productive, and Cost Efficient. We at MyDigitalSSD feel our SSD offers the absolute best mix of price to performance on the market today. Price is measured by our competitive pricing while performance is measured by reliability and speed.

Our BP3 line has achieved a less than .03% failure rate or less than .3 drives out of 100 drives shipped have bricked. This is unheard of in this industry with many SSD manufacturers reporting as high as a 3% defect rate or 3 out of 100 shipped. This is why we call this specific solution the Bullet Proof Series of SSD. Performance, with our newest firmware, is on par or faster than all of our competition.

We encourage you to give MyDigitalSSD a try we are confident that you will approve and recommend it to your co-workers, friends, and family.

    Sincerely,

    MyDigitalSSD

I would use the 256GB to replace my slow 5400RPM HDD
Then the USB 3 can connect to my USB3 port and be a storage device
    EDIT2: I'm in again :)

I would use it for transferring files from the school media server to home so I can do my projects in the comfort of my own chair. And it would be so much easier due to faster speeds of SSD and USB 3.0

I would use the ssd in the enclosure to save all of my games on to free up space. Also since it's an ssd it will make it nice and fast! Thankfully I have usb 3.0 ports! :)

I'd use the MyDigitalDiscount mSATA in my workstation laptop to expand my extremely-limited storage capabilities in my laptop, and that would also allow me to move one of my current SSDs to my desktop in order to boost it's performance.

I would use the drive/kit to revive a laptop that's starting to show it's age. My mother would definitely be able to make use of a functional machine that has no moving parts.

I'd replace my older, smaller MyDigitalSSD in my W520 with the BP3. Then I'd take my old one and attach it to the USB 3.0 adapter.

i'd use it for two main purposes: 1. to store ableton, my music production digital audio workstation of choice, and the many, many GBs of sounds, samples, effects, and virtual musical instruments/soft synths that go along with it (in fact, it'd coincide nearly perfectly with the release of the highly-anticipated ableton live 9, which requires 25-50GB of storage depending on the version); and 2. GAMES!!!

connected via USB 3.0 to my sager (or installed directly into its now-empty msata bay/slot, albeit sata II)? phew! blazingly fast access times.

I'd use the 256GB mSATA to replace the 60gb mSATA ive ordered a few days ago. It would be great to be able to store more stuff on the ssd to make my laptop ligthning fast. And not be limited to only the OS and programs i use very frequently.
I'd use the USB 3.0 to conect my other 60GB mSATA, it would be usefull for example exchanging files with other people with the speed of light ;)

Replace the msata in my AW primarily because of the reviews I have read online, and most likely use the msata-usb3 adaptor with the dell-aw msata and dedicate it to USB storage, or backup

    I would use it multi-fold.

I would produce a new review of the unit, put that out on YouTube and of course throwback to NBR and MyDigitialDiscount for hosting the contest and giving proper thanks.

The actual use for me would be to hold project files like video & photoshop on an external, I have to use a slow USB 2.0 HDD and it slows down workflow quite a bit, and I don't want to keep all the files on my local SSD because they consume too much space or I often find myself working on a project on my laptop some today, and then my desktop some tomorrow.

How would you use the MyDigitalSSD BP3 256GB mSATA SSD and mSATA to USB 3.0 Combo Kit?

That would be easy...I would have a quick USB 3.0 SSD to save all my 3D Animations and models, It would make it so I could easily take my work to other computers and without the headache of small USB flash drives. How nice would that be..... Pretty sweet.. kick the platter...hahaahhaa

Selofain, if you win you could always take the adapter out of the USB 3.0 case and use that. It directly connects with SATA interface. Also it is available separately in the mSATA accessories section of MyDigitalDiscount at only $14.99.

The SSD would be a nice upgrade for my laptop. 256Gb is just perfect because I will use it for Windows and several games.

I have some HDDs laying around. So I definitely can use the enclosure for storage, especially when my laptop have USB 3.0 ports.

And thank MyDigitalDiscount for bringing this contest. It's awesome :).

I would use the enclosure and drive to store my GNU/Linux virtual machine that I use for developing Android roms and apps. My current laptop drive is too full, and therefore I can only run it at home where it is terribly slow.

Well I'd use the SSD to finally give my P150EM the speed it deserves. Seriously, it really hurts having such a top-end machine held back by a 5400rpm hard drive.
And the USB 3.0 ports it has need to be worked out, so the USB 3.0 Enclosure would also come in handy.

And I have to agree with leeshjnn. Thanks for this awesome contest.

I would use one partition on the mSATA as a boot disk for windows, and another for Ubuntu. I was just CADing up a quicker release for mSATA drives, so maybe I use the Linux partition as a recovery for other broken computers using the enclosure!

I would use the mSATA drive in my thinkpad to install another OS. Most likely linux. The mSATA to USB converter would be great to use with my current 60GB mSATA as a protable media drive. The combined speed of SSD and USB 3.0 would be terrific for moving many large files that I deal with daily.

First, install OS+Programs on partitions on the mSATA SSD, and later do very fast backups using the USB3.0 enclosure or just the mSATA to SATA adapter, on another system.

This one is easy....I'm in the middle of an attempt to upgrade my Acer w500 tablet. 32gb is simply not enough space, but a 256gb drive would be a pretty nice replacement. The support MyDigital has given the owner of this guide on doing the upgrade has made me pretty sure that i'd rather work with a MyDigital SSD drive than any other company.

In my Precision I have a 60 GB mSATA SSD that I'm using as a cache drive. I would replace it with the 256 GB mSATA drive... and in addition to using it as an Intel SRT cache, I'd use the extra space to stash my VM images on there.

And for the enclosure, that would be great to stick my current 60 GB drive in so that I could use it as fast external storage.

I'd definitely use the SSD to replace my current internal HDD. Then I'd bump that HDD down to my secondary data/storage drive.

Or, if my motherboard doesn't support mSATA as my primary drive, I would drop the mSATA SSD into the combo enclosure kit, and make it my exclusive external drive for all my VM's (currently VMs are on my E:\; my HDD is partitioned into 3 drives). No more annoying disk thrashing when I have 3 VMs running!

i would frame the msata disk and hang it on the wall since this would be the first time i won something...about the msata to usb3 enclosure combi kit...i really have no idea what that is and what can be done with it so...maybe i could make the frame a bit nicer with it?!..dont know, have to see it first.

maybe you could send me a notebookreview sticker or patch too to put it on the frame. i of course would post a picture of it here and everytime someones visit me he will see its from you...free advertising :thumbsup

I'd put the SSD into my X220 Tablet's mSATA slot and install Windows 8 on it, after cloning my current Windows 7 install with the mSATA to USB 3.0 Enclosure Combo Kit. This way I can keep my Windows 7 install and I won't have to recover it from a backup if Windows 8 is awful without the proper drivers!

First, obviously, I would hand-carve an altar in the shape of MDD's logo and lovingly place both the SSD and enclosure atop it. I would then fast for five days while burning incense and sacrificing small animals.

After that, I'd use the SSD for my new laptop--might be the NP9150--and have the enclosure as a backup/troubleshooter device.

I'd hook it up to my super-fast wireless router as a way to serve media across my network.

Would use to upgrade from my old MydigitalSSD 64GB bullet proof mSata, and use the enclosure for it to use as a backup drive for all my important stuff.

Even if I don't win, MDSSD has my business as their 64GB Bullet Proof has only gotten faster with their firmware upgrades in the 1+ year I've had it, and the 128gb Smart Series is simply amazing. Never had my laptop been so fast. Would be awesome to compare all 3 models and how they differ with the different controllers and sizes, and how much they have advanced over the course of a year.

I would try the Windows to Go feature in windows 8 with the ssd in the enclosure for fast booting, security and apps storagesince my laptop (elitebook 8460p) does not have an mSATA slot and I want to mantain my HDD for file storage with the windows 7 partition. If the windows to go experiment fails, I would use it for a linux (xubuntu 12.10) live usb with persistent storage with the same objectives in mind. (I am more curious about the performance in windows to though).

I would replace my old SSD to boost my notebook performance and capacity, and give the old one to my family so they can feel how better SSD than conventional HDD.

I would swap out the 5200rpm drive in my notebook and use it in the enclosure as an external drive so the speed doesn't slow me down.

    Sounds awesome!

I'd replace my current 128 GB MyDigital mSATA ssd with this one, to give me and my OS a bit more room.
Also, brand new external HD using the adapter from my old ssd!

I'd throw my VM's on it. actually I didnt know anyone made a mSATA to USB3 enclosure/adapter. ill probably buy one for the 120GB mSATA I got without a home since I replaced it with a 240. sounds like the perfect solution for getting my VM's external while hopefully retaining a good amount of performance.

I would see if I could mod the SSD to work in my P150HM by tapping the sata pins from the Esata port.

I'm sure the Enclosure would come in very useful as well, never have enough of those around.

I would use the MyDigital SSD in my laptop to get record-blasting boot times in Windows 8 on my new HP Envy. I would use the USB Kit to take my entire hard drive full of tools with me when repairing computers!
