    Hi All,

Can someone share good/bad experience with MyDigitalSSD mSATA SSD?

The latest MyDigitalSSD 256GB Smart Series looks as an ultimate killer machine for $340, but what about its reliability and the company itself?

MyDigitalSSD website looks as a joke with no real company info or physical address.

I read some articles that MyDigitalSSD 256GB Smart is a re-branded ADATA Releases XPG SX300. ADATA provides 3 years warranty, but MyDigitalSSD gives 5 years for the Smart series. Perhaps it is either a great product or these guys don't expect to be in the business in 5 years :)

    Any comments?

I installed the 128GB version in my laptop. Backup your drive regularly and you should have nothing to worry about.

Almost every major SSD company has run into issues with at least one of their SSD models in the past year or 2. This includes Intel and Samsung, who most would expect to offer the most reliable products. In my opinion, SSD's haven't been around long enough to be considered reliable. I've never viewed HDDs as reliable, which is why backing up data is so important.

I have the MyDigitalSSD 256GB Smart mSata, it is a SATA3 and it is very fast. It is just that the mSATA port on my T430s is only SATA2. So it is not 100% fully utilized in the mSATA location.

And if you get the mSATA to SATA adapter it become thicker than 7mm so it will not fit in the standard HDD location for a T430s.

I know it's in French, but there's the return rates from e-tailers in France concerning SSDs.Note that Samsung isn't in the bunch. Note that return does not equal failure rates, but it should be pretty close.

SSD - Les taux de retour des composants (6) - HardWare.fr

    HDDs:
SSD stats don't look too bad to me actually. :p I'm not saying there aren't problems and yes every manufacturer experienced problems. How fast the issues were addressed and if they were addressed counts for something though.

Here comes an interesting point as who actually manufactures MyDigitalSSD and ADATA. MyDigital SSD Smart mSATA is a re-branded ADATA SX300 - see this.

However, MyDigitalSSD provide 5 year warranty vs ADATA 3-year warranty. It sounds a bit odd if it is an identical card.

I am not sure about the latest SandForce mSATA:
    1. Micron RealSSD C400 mSATA
    2. Mushkin Atlas mSATA

Are these actually the same re-branded SSDs?

Also, it looks as Micron and Mushkin are not available anywhere.

That C400 SSD is actually a M4 which means a Marvell controller.

Make sure you don't buy any of their (mydigitalSSD) 64GB mSATA SSDs from eBay. Until just recently a lot of their 64GB ones were horrible on 4k read performance, leading to massive stuttering ala early SSDs. Many of these might end up on eBay.

Apparently their new P3 line of mSATA SSDs are good, though.

Thank you. I am waiting for the Crucial m4 256GB to become available and hope it will be as reliable as their other SDDs. It is quite cheap in Germany (about $190), but I cannot find any shops to ship overseas.

New FW will be out to fix that issue by the end of this month. Not proud of this but just so you guys know that issue only effected maybe 20 people worldwide out of thousands of pcs sold.

The defect rate for MyDisitalSSD is in line with the .8% of Intel's. It is actually sub .5% at this time. With more than %90 of those defects detected within the 1st few minutes of use. I only know of one bricked drive that bricked more than one month after instal.

    Questions to MyDigitalSSD:

Could you please explain me what exactly MyDisitalSSD is? We understand that Crucial is a "retail Micron", but MyDisitalSSD sells SSD under its name yet identified as ADATA. How is that possible? How can you provide 5yr warranty for exactly the same ADATA SX300 chip while ADATA gives 3 yr warranty?

Do you understand that such a practice is called a "fraudulent trading activity" and could be a subject of investigation? Taking into account MyDigitalSSD fishy website without even a physical address, I have to state that this company looks as a scam. Period. There are a lot of fake Chinese companies selling semi-legal clones. Perhaps MyDigitalSSD is one of those.

Have a look at another site owned by MyDigitalSSD - MyDigitalDiscount.com. As stated on the website, it is located at

    185 East Seneca Street
    Oswego, NY 13126

A simple Google search of businesses established in Oswego county, shows no firms with such names or related to SSD businesses. How is that possible that a company running a business since 2008 (correct?) doesn't have any locations or business directory traces whatsoever?

I would highly appreciate you to prove otherwise.

#1 We influenced Adata to build that drive. It would not exist if it was not for us. We were shipping the drive a full 3 weeks ahead of Adata themselves. Our Bullet Proof Series has been around for a few years now and other than a few problems with the 64GB SATA II Model they have been truly bullet proof.

#2 We have a valid deal with Adata for full warranty for 5 years on the Smart Series. Our own hardware ID will be adopted with the next round of production later next week.

#3 MyDigitalSSD has been around for around 5 years now and MyDigitalDiscount for 12 years. MyDigitalSSD is part of MyDigitalDiscount.

#4 Go to Google Maps and search MyDigitalDiscount and it will pop right up.

#5 Go to BBB.org and you will see MyDigitalDiscount has an A ratting.

#6 Do you think for one second the guys at NBR would let us partake in their forum if we were not a stand up firm? These guys are hard core and we work hard to please everyone here.

We appreciate your concerns and would love the opportunity to gain your business and trust.

Now that the Crucial m4 MSATA is released, explain why I shouldn't get one of those at around $210 - $230 for a 256GB versus a MyDigitalSSD Smart 256GB for over $100 more? Even the ADATA drive is $250 on NewEgg right now, even though it is OOS at this time.

In some major points of interest like random 4K speeds the Smart Series is 2 times faster than the Crucial drive and is still the undisputed fastest overall mSATA on the market. I cannot speak for Newegg but I don't think they made a dollar off any of those parts infact they may have taken a loss. I am looking to get some better pricing out for the next round in about 1.5 weeks on both Smart and BP3 including some exclusive NBR coupons.

And of course, it has the SandForce controller that some people around here have some past issues with.

Why would I think it's more reliable than the other SandForce drives out there?

Right now, the price of $350 for a 256GB drive that should have comparable performance to the $250 AData version of the same drive seems like a bit of a bitter pill to swallow. The five year warranty is a plus in the favor of your drive, though it's still a $100 difference between your drive and the AData drive.

EDIT: A price drop + NBR exclusive coupons would certainly get my attention. As my m4 won't likely show up for a little bit of time, I might be interested in seeing what could be done to bridge that price gap.

The Crucial 256GB is listed for $225.99 plus tax from the manufacturer's wesbite: http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT256M4SSD3. Which means that it will soon be available for less at other vendors once supplies increase.

shrike, I can guaranty you will like what I have planned so don't open that Crucial Drive. Expect an announcement from Chris (Admin) next week.

yrc, I doubt it is going to be coming out for any less anytime soon. I think Crucial is making a power play with that pricing. Kinda like Newegg did on the Adata drive.

I'll be curious to see what you have to announce next week.

My Crucial drive hasn't shipped yet, so there's nothing to open. Yet, at least.
