Yes because the performance and parts are not at the same level we did adjust the price. We also adjusted the price of the 128GB but not because of a price change from our flash suppliers or quality parts but because we want to get a good chunk of this upcoming mSATA boom and we want to stay on top as far as price and reliability are concerned. I sincerely hope we are a major player when .... hits the fan.

Ha! This makes for some great bargaining skills (/sarcasm)

In all seriousness, do you have any real-world proof that it's ~20% slower than 34nm? Here's a link to debunk the 25nm "hype"

Specifically, this might be of interest to you:

You can argue till the cows come home, but see post #163 where the manufacturer's rep admits the drop in performance. Further, see this link for benchmarks from May 2011 (when 32nm was in use): MyDigitalSSD 50mm Bullet Proof mSATA PCIe 64GB SSD Review - Benchmarks - CrystalDiskMark :: TweakTown USA Edition, and this updated link on the retailer's Web site (25nm): MyDigitalSSD 64GB 50mm Bulletproof mSATA SSD | My Digital Discount (or post #151 of this thread). My benchmarks are also in the latter range.

I've received my mSATA SSD today! I was initially mad because I was charge a brokerage fee by UPS for shipping it to my apartment (I live in Toronto). But after seeing the benchmarks result, I can say that I'm a happy myDigitalSSD owner! :D

Its kinda weird in my previous AS SSD tests I've achieved 10mb at 4k and when I run the tests now I can hit up to 12.94mb. Overall really happy with the SSD

Yeah, there's not really much difference in performance between 11 and 12 in benchmarks. Definitely not noticeable, though I'm not sure what exactly was updated (if it was more than just speed).

I just got the 64GB MyDigitalSSD msata and am getting very unimpressive results. I updated to latest firmware and then installed lenovo recovery discs to restore windows. Could I be missing something?

    Heres my results

    Sequential Read : 134.813 MB/s
    Sequential Write : 53.047 MB/s
    Random Read 512KB : 100.408 MB/s
    Random Write 512KB : 5.160 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 8.931 MB/s [ 2180.5 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.545 MB/s [ 133.2 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 45.334 MB/s [ 11067.9 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.379 MB/s [ 92.5 IOPS]

    Test : 1000 MB [C: 67.8% (30.3/44.7 GB)] (x5)
    Date : 2012/02/17 21:05:35
    OS : Windows 7 Home Premium Edition SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64)

And heres my results with my 7200rpm stock hdd

    Sequential Read : 86.352 MB/s
    Sequential Write : 83.108 MB/s
    Random Read 512KB : 26.024 MB/s
    Random Write 512KB : 36.928 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.309 MB/s [ 75.5 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.675 MB/s [ 164.7 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 0.665 MB/s [ 162.4 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.679 MB/s [ 165.8 IOPS

Actually scores better with sequential write test.

    Any ideas?

Just to make sure, try open AS SSD benchmark application and check if your SSD partition is aligned. You don't need to run the benchmark, just check if it says OK in green or BAD in red.

Go ask in one of the SSD tweaks threads they will definitely be able to help out. It probably has something to do with TRIM and/or Garbage Collection.

So is there any kind of consensus on whether or not this SSD is reliable and performs well enough to buy it? I want to get an mSATA drive to keep the weight down on my CPU, but I must have a 128GB SSD, and this is really the only semi-reliable one out there.

FYI, 150pcs 34nm 128GB mSATA SSD are going to be in route on the 24th. The last shipment of 100pcs sold out the day they arrived so if you want one for sure you may as well get it on order now.

The problem is that technology advances so fast, long term reliability is not truly known. However, based on returns info and user experiences (including myself) from this forum, I would definitely recommend getting a mSATA drive from MyDigitalSSD.

While we have had the least amount of issues (virtually 0) with 128GB mSATA the others have fared well and have held up to the test of time as well. It is true we have seen a few complaints about the 64GB mSATA as of late and we are looking into it at this time. But looking at the 64GB sales as a whole these few complaints are a drop in the bucket vs. the # of them that are in users computers at this time. We will update the 64GB slow performance thread when we have more info to explain the issues that these few users are having. Seems that these complaints started after we moved to 24nm flash in the 64GB model. Not saying that is it just saying it is the only change we made in the product since the performance issue was noticed by these few user's.

Thanks for the info sir. I am really concerned with both the performance and the longevity of the SSD. If it performs up to (or at least close to) the level of the likes of Intel, Crucial and Samsung, then I am very interested in getting one. Especially since I can't find a reliable 128GB mSATA by those manufacturers to put in my M6600.

I notice that my score on this benchmark is a bit slower than others and that my drive is listed as an ATA Device, while others are not. Is there some setting I should change?

I have been selling SSD since 2007 and I can tell you that in 98% of cases a defective SSD will fail the 1st time you plug it in or in rare cases within a very short time after (less than 24 hours). 1% fail usually due to poor soldering that degrades over time and another 1% are due to user error or from being put in the wrong environment. But you should not have to worry about our SSD as it is made in the same fab with all of the same materials as Toshiba and Sandisk SSD.

    MyDigitalSSD

Forgot to mention FW failure that is probably another 1%.

I have been using the 64GB version with rather disappointing performance results - not much better than the X220 stock platter drive - so I have decided to give MyDigitalSSD's 128GB version a try. Placing order now...

jbrian420, this FW will be good for all of our SATA SSD.

Wafles024, we shipped 100pcs about 1.5 weeks ago and have had nothing but good feedback except one person and we are looking into that now.

150 more are shipping tonight from TW. Should be shipping to end users Monday or Tuesday. All of our resellers will have stock.

It does not but you can download many of the same tools online for free.

FYI, if you want one this week you better hurry only 16pcs are available in the USA right now out of 150pcs that landed this morning. For international users our reseller in the UK will have 30pcs and our reseller in Japan will have 20pcs tomorrow. Sorry can't name them here don't want to get in trouble for advertising but you can find them on our site.

More 128GB mSATA will be available in the USA by mid next week.

    MyDigitalSSD

Seems like FW 12 was a really good stable FW. It is all hands on deck today so not 100% on us getting FW 15 up today. I will get some performance #'s up comparing 12 to 15. I will do my best to get that info up soon.

Maybe tonight I will do the same. Heads up, using Acronis backup software it takes me about 5min to backup my c drive onto my d drive and prob just as long to restore. Should take me about 2 mins to update firmware using this software.

    My feelings as well.
As an OS boot drive, with no loooong media (movies/music) writes, the Intel is suited just fine, all its going to write is your updates.
Just have to make sure that all media/caching is written to a D:/ 2.5" SSD SATA II/III for fast I/O times. I would put my games/CAD here as well, and leave the OS alone.
80GB is more than enough for me, my C:/ is at 59GB, with 43 of my own programs, and LOTS of restore points. No games on here, its on D:/ at 107GB's.

A Toyota MR2 is faster than a Camry but the Camry works just fine can fit 5 comfortably and has great consumer reports. An HDD in the equation would be a tricycle when it comes to 4k r/w :)

There have been a number of new laptops released in the past month that have mSATA SSD's available as an option. Most of them (Like my HP dm14t) have a small SSD and a second HDD, while this is an OK setup and better than just the HDD, I wanted to put all of my main programs on the SSD rather than just the OS. Further I needed a drive with good small data reads and writes since I have a number of old pst (outlook) files that total 12GB and need to be loaded quickly whenever I use outlook (I know this is nuts but they are old irreplaceable email files from the past 15 years). SO I went looking for a larger mSATA SSD. Due to price, size and availability I narrowed my search quickly down to two; the OCZ Nocti 128GB and the MyDigital 128GB. The NOcti was $230 while the MyDigital was $180. After lots of research I found that the Sandforce controller on the Nocti did have a few high-end features that the MyDigital Phison controller lacked but also that unless you have to frequently read/write absolutely huge amounts of small and uncompressable files (such as multi-gigabits of computer code) the MyDigital actually slightly outperformed the Nocti on most tasks. SO I dug around and was able to borrow a bullet proof 128GB mSATA module and try it out. I worked perfectly in my limited testing, but this was mainly to make sure that I could get it to work at all in my new notebook and be able to setup WIn7 Ult on it without trouble; yes on both counts. So I have ordered my own MyDigital 128GB drive.

Thanks for the thoughtful review! Based on the information provided here, I've decided to order one of the 128GB MyDigitalSSD drives for my Lenovo Ideapad Y470 (0855-2JU) which has finally shipped, but not yet arrived. mydigitaldiscount.com is still discounting an extra $10 if you post in your favorite forum that your system uses one of the drives, so this is a blatant attempt to save $10 bucks. However, I AM actually ordering one otherwise I wouldn't be posting to save $10 bucks. :) I do intend to post back after I get everything working (hopefully) and report how everything went and my thoughts on the system difference with the msata. (See new post... Have put performance numbers there)

System-as-ordered-signature: (which was dang hard to remember exactly as I ordered it weeks ago and Lenovo has since dropped these entirely from the website and the spec pdf on the main Y470 page doesn't cover the -2JU. Found it on the full PSREF sheets at Lenovo)

How can I check the FW version of the mSATA drive?

(I received a 128GB just last week from MyDigitalSSD. I also have a 64GB, which I bought mid last year and may have an older FW.)

    TIA!

wow, I have read all 22 pages of this thread.
and I decided to order a mydigital ssd 128gb instead of an intel 310 80gb.
Mainly for it's performance/price ratio, and expect that it will be no dramatic performance difference in actual daily use between the two.
