I've been waiting for months hoping that the performance of my 64gb msata will be fixed. The stuttering is almost close to being unacceptable to a point that I want to go back to my original mechanical drive. Lets hope the upcoming firmware will fix this.

Fingers and tows crossed over here.

If it does not work you guys can all exchange yours for a BP3 64GB. Shipped around 100pcs so far without a peep from anyone.

Hey I have been having these issues with my 64gb MyDigitalSSD. I was wondering if there is still a mid july eta for the new firmware. also I was wondering if it is even worth it to upgrade to the Firmware version 17 or if its not worth it and I should just wait.

I have not heard otherwise I will try to get an update tonight. If the FW is anything like the new FW they just came out with for the new S8 controller you guys are in for a treat.

My guy was up over in TW. They gave me a hard date of 7/24. They said it is in beta right now.

Here's the good and the bad of it... The good was I was able to get a neighbor to take the package out of the mailbox on that monday when it arrived. So it didn't bake all week in the 100+ heat.

Now for the rest. First, this cost an EXTRA $26 to send the old one back. I was charged $99 and receieved only a $79 credit for the return. The replacement was the sanforce based model. There was no additional shipping except what it cost me to send my old unit back.
As feared, the case doesn't close anymore enough for the tablet to power on :( So it now had to superglued :( After addressing that, I was able to reload the software. So far for a week it has been stable. I'll update in 4 to 6 weeks to see if it remains stable. This is assuming of course the superglue holds and lasts more then the usual 2 weeks.

Recommendation... I don't care what Matt(mydigitalssd) wants to post here, AVOID the BP/BP3/BPx whatever. BulletProof? Seriously? Get a known solid working product. Spend a little extra $ upfront for the sanforce controller if you buy the mydigitalssd or go with a good reputable brand(intel, corsair, etc...). THIS WAS DEFINATELY NOT WORTH THE HASSLES, FAILURES AND DAMAGES TO A $500+ TABLET!

jnmarshall, your experience was not good I see that but you blanketly declare that our product is not solid when that is incorrect. Our 64GB product is still solid it is just there are a few bugs that needed to be worked out with the new flash that was released in December. We shipped around 5Kpcs of the 128GB version and around 3K of the 64GB and 2K of the 32GB. As far as the 128GB and 32GB are concerned we have never had any major issue at all. We have already shipped around 500pcs of the BP3 and only have one technical issue with one user so far with 0 defects.

I hope you can reconsider your opinion after a few weeks of use on the Smart Series drive. Also we are releasing a FW soon that will not only solve peoples issues with the 64GB MyDigitalSSD but all other brands using the combo of Phison S5 with 24nm flash.

From my experience: I have been selling SSD from every major vendor since 2007 none of them have anywhere near the quality we are shipping in the BP/BP3 line. Most vendors even the biggest of them have a nearly 3% defect rate. Out of the thousands of pcs we have sold we have around 8 bricks and maybe 60 support issues (with 40 of them having to do with this 64GB FW issue) in almost 2 years now.

I hope this thread will be completely dead until the FW release.

I think they are going to first have it under their hands, make some tests on some drives and release it after.

Let's hope it isn't going to take another 3 month course.

I wouldn't be waiting for a fix if you NEED a stable/reliable and fast system. Get a product that works for you now.

Not to say that the issues here won't be corrected/resolved (eventually and hopefully) - just pointing out that your concerns/requirements need to be met now, rather than (a too late) later.

I really doubt that mydigitalssd missed anything. It's more likely that phison didn't release the firmware, yet. From my own experience i can say that if you develop a software the worst thing you can do is give an ETA, cause in 95% of cases you wont make it within the time.

Still Nothing? not even a response from you MyDigitalSSD a week after you're hard date? Can you please explain to me the refund because I need this computer to work right before I go back to school. Also what do people think of a crucial m4 msata 128gb ssd? I was thinking about just getting one of those because crucial/micron seem to be much more reliable and make a better trustworthy products. at least with ram.

Wow well that just about settles it. msata M4 it is. It looks like they already deleted that link too. I sent mydigitalssd an email through their contact us page and have not received a response about returns or replacements. So basically MyDigitalSSD was trying to stall for 3 months so people wouldn't realize that they should be returning these POS hardware.

Looks like they removed their 64gb BPx product from amazon. Two other merchants are still selling them.
So far after two weeks, the sandforce replacement is working solid.

Again I'll recommend that you don't waste your your $$ supporting this Phison product.

Sorry for not getting over here to give you guys an update sooner. Can't read previous posts because I can't take the stress right now. But the news from Phison is that the FW failed their internal testing due to a power management issue (sounds like they fixed our speed problem but found another one). Waiting for an update on when they feel they may be ready to release this FW. More BP3 product should start flowing soon 5-7 days and at new pricing.

Sorry I did not have better news for you guys.

More BP3 product should start flowing with what firmware? The previous FW that didn't work because of one problem, or the new FW that supposedly fixes your problem and brought up a completely new one?

I'm more curious that Crucial is coming out with their own Phison-based drive and if it'll have the same "features" that the MyDigitalSSD BP3 seems to be blessed with.

My fear was that Phison could't solve the problem, as they failed to identify it in the testing stage. Hope the new problem they found is tied to the speed problem and that they can fix this drive once for all. Speaking of my situation, i have a 32GB MydigitalSSD bought 1 year ago, don't know what memory it has (24 or 32 nm).

I had speed problem (the SSD was crawling) , then i updated to FW17 and applied the registry trick to power mode found in this thread and now it is performing well even with only 5 GB free.(Even if speeds are lower than advertized, but i think that you should not bench an EMPTY drive and rate it with such obtained speeds.)

I think that the situation about these drives is tricky, due to Phison lack of testing and hardware changes between production, the last news shows that there were some underlying understimated bugs.

I'm experiencing the stuttering.freezing issues with my 4 month old 64gb Bulletproof drive on 017 firmware. I can't even watch simple Youtube videos sometimes because of it. I emailed tech support this weekend and still haven't heard anything back.

Should I just shell out for a new micro SATA drive and forget this one? I can get the Samsung OEM 64gb from Newegg for around $53 shipped. It's not as fast, but I had two in my older Lenovos and never had a problem with them.

I would just like to report that I did get a 128 gb crucial m4 msata and I am loving it so far. Everything seems to be working well and amazingly it doesn't seem to drop off in performance 2 hours after a reinstall. knock on wood... As of now I would highly recomend the crucial m4 msata's. Here is my benchmark results; the left is the type of results I was getting with the Mydigitalssd and the right is what i am getting now:

Looks like I'm going to try to get a refund (I don't know if that's possible, but I can hope!) for my Bulletproof and pay about the same for an M4 mSATA drive and the mSATA to micro SATA adapter.

Yes, Crucial M4 is a very good mSATA SSD, perhaps one of the best available. These are my benchmarks on SATA II:

    cr_mark.png

Also, I was playing with different drivers and rolled back to the generic MS driver for AHCI controller yet still use Intel RST services. This combination gives me about 20% performance increase.

Call your vendor and ask them to get you a refund or grab a BP3 they are better than the Crucial all the new stock has the new FW on it so they are blazing fast. They are in stock right now at our U.S. retailer. 64GB 128GB and 256GB just landed yesterday with a new low price. Also I would be willing to bet any day now Phison will come through with a FW to fix your issues and make your BP drive perform like the BP3 and Crucial m4.

Guys try microscope utilities 2005 's level feature, its located under section 4 in the batch section. Look around you will find it.
It works much differently then apps like CCLeaner and similar apps do.
The utility can be found on the hawk-pe 43 ISO.
Worked wonders for me. The when you re-format leave about 4-8 gigs unformated unpartitioned space free and use the LPM registry fixes.

All this combined with the latest firmware didn't quite put the hammer down but it did help.

    By the way
I just sent my phison 3105 controller based SSD in for a RMA, after 4 Sandforce based drives failing on me and now this. well.... im hopping the 6th times a charm.

ps: word of warning sector leveling will destroy all data on the drive.

mydigital, have you tested the smart series with the sandforce 5.03 FW? If so, how is it performance or reliability wise? I was told that I could purchase it with this update instead of the shipped 5.02 but wanted to learn about it a little before I pull the trigger.

Ladies Gentlemen the FW is here and we have tested it IT WORKS. It will be live on the site by Wednesday next week. We are making a full tutorial.

We tested a returned unit that had the slow random write issue causing the computer to freeze/shutter during use. We confirmed that the problem existed on that unit then we upgraded the FW did an initial Crystal test at 80% full, did some other tests, messed around with it for a while and finally did the Crystal Bench again and there was virtually 0 difference in the 2 tests done with the new FW. The computer feels lightning fast and the random writes are a very respectable 5-8MB/sec in Crystal.

We were unable to try it on a 128GB BP because we have virtually never had a return so we would love to hear from 128GB owners and see what type of differences you see.

Once it is release on Wednesday and you guys are satisfied I think we should contact a Moderator to add a - FIXED to the end of the title of this thread.

I know we are a few to follow actively the story (like dakdroid, lockecole)

We've been told two different version during the summer.

Let's hope that's not just mouth babling and that there really is a new FW and that it really fix the issue.

In case the above is coming for wednesday, I will praise you MyDigitalSSD ^^

I just got mine back from Verbatim today (RMA) hoping that they would have replaced it with a new one.
But "Device is ok/ No Error found".
I will check the firmware version later, maybe they just updated it, if not then i am looking forward to wednesday.

Edit: is there an easy way to check the firmware version ?

    A little background:
I used the SSD (Verbatim 128GB) on my MSI Laptop (i3) and after a while the OS (Windows 7) started freezing and I had copy speeds (e.g. from Desktop to Desktop) of less than 1 Mb/s (S5FAM017).
So I put this SSD in my Mac Mini to see how it performs there, same problem.
So I put this SSD in my other desktop, same problem.
Yesterday i got the SSD back from Verbatim and surprisingly i saw today that it had a new firmware on it (S5FAM030, same serial, so its the same device).
    My Tests so far:
Installed Mac OS, bootcamp, Windows 7

    Windows Updates, Reboot.

Copied 20 Gb from my USB Drive to my Desktop.
Copied those 20Gb from my Desktop to my Desktop.

On the old firmware i could kind of cause the freezing, by just copying over some folders from my USB Drive. Seems like it is fixed now. But of course this ssd was only in use now for a couple of hours.
I hope it stays like that, at least no freezes...

Edit: did another AS SSD Test after deleting the folder, times are back down to 0.170 both.

Considering i have the same firmware that you are going to release, the 128gb Version (considering here that the Verbatim is exactly the same as yours) is even faster.
