EDIT: It's a Micro-B USB 3.0 connector. Guess I better correct that. I will update review tomorrow. Kids are in bed and don't want to wake them. :p

I'll have to look for a thinner cable. But it still would be nice if it came with a more flexible cable and a way to attach it to the case somehow.

They say trim works? Can you try on win8 and see if it can be optimized.

    I have a blizlink 2.5" usb 3.0 sata adapter and it doesn't reorganize as ssd on win8.though I think I can get 250MB/S on a Sammy 470.

The enclose is on sale on amazon for 20,pretty tempting for me. Much smaller than 2.5 with the gigantic adapter.

All these adapter are only sata2 iirc. Correct me if I am wrong.

SATA II or SATA III performance is between SATA I and II regardless.

And no TRIM that I know of.

Just bench the 470 actually does cap @ 200.

I think their rep here said it can trim in a thread recently.

TRIM through USB? That's up to Windows and I don't believe it recognizes SSD's through USB.

The drive and enclosure are probably capable of TRIM, but if the command doesn't get sent in the first place.

HT's results are in line with what I got with a USB3.0 SATA enclosure with a SSD in it too. USB3.0 seems to top at ~200 MB/s. Effectively, it's about as good as eSATA for sequential transfers and way more ubiquitous, giving it an advantage.

USB3.0 cables are always thick (more wires in them), but you could probably get a 6ft USB3.0 cable and it will power the drive just fine.

USB3.0 micro is actually nice, it's fully compatible with USB2.0 micro and those cables are pretty common, so in a pinch, you could use one of those should you not be able to find the USB 3.0 cable.

Nice review by the way, + rep.

It seems this device is USAP compliant and Windows 8 supports it. I may do a Win 8 install just to see if performance can increase.

USAP should give you more speed. Is the USB controller inside your Sager/Clevo W230ST, Intel supporting USAP?

If the USB is chipset then yes from a hardware level. it's more the os drivers. Windows 8 supports uasp natively but you need discreet drivers for Win 7 (I. E. Intel xhci usb3.0 drivers) though I've always had trouble getting the chipset usb3.0 to uasp vs the discrete asmedia solutions.

Thanks Marksman. My friend google wasn't very helpful. Windows 8 seems the only way to go for an OS despite it's appearance. It's faster and USB benefits as well with USAP natively.

    Until now :p

I downloaded and installed the Intel USB 3.0 XHCI drivers and no difference in performance. XHCI is enabled in the BIOS.

Thats a bummer, I'd thought Intel would enable UASP via their official driver stack like the other 3rd party USB3.0 controllers like ASMEDIA or RENESAS.

The board/enclosure/cable look exactly the same to one wingnut has. It have a drive activity LIGHT? (normal?).This one actually say UASP when using Crystal disk info. 300MB/s read, crapstic random read/write (maybe it is the drive/usb port) Doesnt seem to be manual trimable.

Edit: The USB port is a 3.0 Renesas/NEC. I will try on a AMD and use a m5m when I have some more time. ~~ Don't think anywhere close have a intel usb 3.0 port. xD

The board chipset is asm1051 I believe.
