Okay, I give up. What is this strange, flat, black thing that came with my ThinkPad T43 Port Replicator II?
To see it, go to http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...3 - Retail. It's on the far right, next to the user's guide.
It's IBM part number 13N9421. I could find no reference to it on the Web or IBM site, and there is no reference to it in the user's guide.
Thanks for the help. Looks like I'm a DF.![]()

But it could be something that you may need to put between the laptop and the port replicator .. ??
Post an image we'll see ! -
Sorry about that link. Here's a good one:

Mystery solved, though. A gentlman named Bill from the thinkpad.com forum gave me the answer:
"It's a positiong template to stick one of the included "arrowhead" stickers on the back of the "lid" of a Thinkpad if you need it. When the arrowhead on the closed ThinkPad screen/lid is aligned with a similar mark on the dock, the Thinkpad is correctly aligned for docking.
Most, but not all, T4x ThinkPad models come with a small arrowhead permanently etched into the lid, but I personally had a T41 which didn't, and needed the sticker applied, using the template."
What bugs me most is that this official IBM part-numbered part is not in their database (at least as far as I know). I pride myself in being able to put together just about anything without reading the manual, but this thing stumped me from the get-go.
So now we know! -
so that is what the arrowhead on the lid is for.
