    im getting an acer 3825 and it uses 1GB PC2-4200 DDR2 memory for multitasking power, expandable to 4GB...i want to expand it to 4gb ..what do i buy...could i buy 2 2gbs??will they fit or i have to by a 4gb and throw the 1gb i already have out of something...also whats this my friend wants to know,

    You likely have 2x512MB so you need to buy 2x2GB, you only have two slots. On a 32bit OS you will not be able to take advantage of much more than 3GB. So you could consider 1x1GB and 1x2GB?

    To powerpack, But then you cant take advantage of dual channeling.

    ^^ The 1st 2GB will run in dual channel. The final 1GB won't. The more frequently accessed data will migrate toward the front. The bandwidth difference with Intel matched DIMM's vs 3GB is 3% in benchmarks so well for some not worth it?
