    Hello ASUS Comunity!

PLEASE help me out with this. I just purchased a new N71JQ-XT1 and I want to upgrade the RAM to 8GB. It comes with 2, 2GB of 1066MHZ RAM, but I want 8GB of 1333MHZ RAM. I had a question of the compatibility of 1333MHZ and this computers MOBO, but I couldn't find ANYTHING on this computer. So

I found this page - Computer memory upgrades for ASUS N71JQ-XT1 Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com

This states that it can handle 1333MHZ RAM, but I contacted the ASUS Customer Support and this is what they sent me "For your second issue, unfortunately, I am sorry that this motherboard does not have the capability of using 1333mhz RAM instead of 1066. For more information, please try to refer here: Main Memory: DDR3 1066 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 8GB SDRAM"

I could swear that I've read that other N71JQ owners have used 1333MHZ in their computers. I have already purchased this Amazon.com: Corsair 8 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory Kit CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9: Electronics
but I will return the RAM if I find out it will not work.

    Please helpe me out!

    Thanks

    Tristan

Well from the models I am seeing, the N71Q-XT1 comes with an i7-740QM which is a quad core i7 which does natively support 1333 DDR3 RAM. I think ASUS might be bs'ing you.

I think so also, that is why I am so confused lol. Kinda weird that the company customer support would not know anything about their own products. I think I'm just gonna put the RAM in and hope it reads 1333MHZ. Unless someone can show me that it will not work.

I've dealt with ASUS tech support. Until you escalate to a tier 3 tech, don't bother listening to what they have to say. The first 2 techs said my RAM, PSU and CPU were defective not the motherboard. The 3rd tech said the motherboard was defective and just to RMA it.

Haha WOW, I do know about the Tier system and you are right about that. You would think they would have that kind of info in their systems though... I've been told ASUS takes care of their costomers better than most... Hmmm. Well thank you very much for easing my mind. I'll wait for the RAM to come in and feel more confident that there will be no issues.

As you stated before, with quad cores, do you know where I could reference that info about them being able to take 1333MHZ RAM? I believe you, but it would ease my mind even more.

You probably want this, under Memory Specifications.

Worst thing that could happen is your new 8 gigs of 1333 downclock to 1066 and work great.

    Hello Tristan.

Did the upgrade work out for you? I'm pondering on doing the same thing...I'd rather get 1333mhz clips if they work...

Please revert back with a status.

    Thanks.

    Fred.
