    Hi All,

I have a Compaq NC8230. I have built this unit up with a 1.86 Mhz Pent M, 1.5 Gb ram, ati x600 w/ 128 mb ram, 15.4 WSXGA+ LCD, Win xp w/ SP3 (with latest win updates), latest bios F.18.

So here is my issue. The screen is dim. I have checked the "Ambient Light Sensor" located towards the left hand side o f the screen and once a brighter source of light is put near the sensor the screen brightens up. Take it away and it goes dim again.

I have the HP Quick Launch software loaded and can see it being enabled and disabled (using the fn+f11) but does not disable the sensor. f9 and f10 are able to change the brightness but never gets as bright as when a light is put near the sensor.

I have the same model of laptop for work and the I am able to turn the "Ambient Light Sensor" on and off it also gets brighter when disabled as expected.

Is there something I am missing or a service that is not running?

Thanks in advanced for the help.

    Regards.
