I've had my np8690 for a little over a year, and I am considering upgrading my gpu.

    I have a:
    gtx 280
    Q820
    4,096MB DDR3
    500GB 7200RPM

I'm having a lot of trouble finding gpus for sale. Is ebay the only place I can go to find notebook gpus?

Any reccomendations on what I should upgrade to (or if it's even worth it at this time) would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about you m15x, I think someone spotted a 460m and/or a 470m option on like Alienware China or somewhere. The 5850 or 5870 are also nice upgrades.

The 5870 is best choice among all of those. Period. The 460m cost more and is slower in every category that's playable. The 470m costs WAY too much, and is thought to be about on par with the 5870. ATi vs nVidia is irrelevant, you should always go with what's best at the time you want to buy.

The only exceptions are if you want to run Linux, or have a 120Hz external display and want 3D.

The question for the OP is it worth several hundred dollars to get a 20-30% increase in performance. if so go for a AMD 5870.

The cost for the 470m is just out there to be reasonable.

You can select the 460 on the US site now (same price as the 260). M17x still has the 285 as the top Nvidia option.
