I see that most of my thumbdrives, memory cards are pre-formatted with FAT32. So will formatting it with NTFS give me any faster performance?

On my portable usb drive i get a preformance boost if using NTFS, but i lose compatability with my PS3, that does not read NTFS formatted stuff.
If you got Vista / 7 you can also try ExFat.
Will work on all the newer versions of Windows OS, but you need to download a update for Windows XP.

Nope. FAT32 is fine for your application.

Just keep in mind, the max file size for FAT32 is 4GB-1b. If you have large .iso files, or any other single file you may want to move to the drive that is larger than 4GB, you should go with NTFS.
