Howdy,
Im after an upgrade for my Razer Blade 15 SSD.
It runs really hot and there are hot fixes out there but I need to upgrade to 500GB anyway.
These are the comparative models:
Im not after huge performance just better thermal output / power usage to save my wrist from burning![]()
Intel 760P Series 512GB
ADATA XPG SX8200 480GB M.2 (PCIE) SSD
Western Digital WD Black 512GB M.2 (PCIE) SSD
Samsung 960 EVO 500GB M.2 (PCIE) SSD

Really others have said 950 960 pro series run around 70c 160 F

Hmm...
My 960 EVO's Flash and controller ran super hot while under load.

An SSD running at 80 - 90C is far too hot and can lead to data loss. You need to place thermal pads on top of the SSD to transfer heat away from the NAND flash chip to the bottom case of the laptop. Refer to these reddit threads for guidance:

What are the other thermals like for the CPU, GPU, etc when idle and under load?
Thermal pads might alleviate some of the issues, but they won't solve the underlying problem if such a high thermal result is produced due to something else (for example, dust clogged air-vents and dust filled fans for example).
If you ask me, the M.2 SSD operational temperatures should be lower than 80 degrees C even when stressed to the max.Starlight5 likes this. -
Nah. The CPU/GPU run 80/72 but as this is a 14" machine, the temps are fine. The SSD is located far away from those and has its on vent on the bottom panel as you can see the drive inside. @Meaker@Sager said those temps are okay for this drive.

I'd try a layer or two of thermal pads or invest in Silverstone thermal pads for m.2 ssd or Advancing Gene heatsink.
NVME m.2 SSD - Which one is the coolest / less power hungry?
