I realize this will probably seem like a ridiculous thread since everyone is more interested in Montevina vs Santa Rosa now...

But I just got a great deal on an XPS m1710...

Merom processor (Socket M) on a Napa motherboard...

As far as I can tell, the huge step up with Santa Rosa was the 800 MHz FSB (and for battery life, the fact that it can cut that speed in half...obviously with an m1710, battery life isn't a huge sell for me)...

However, if FSB connects the processor to the chipset Northbridge, and from there to RAM, and RAM is limited to 667 MHz, is the increase in FSB speed from 667 MHz to 800 MHz really that helpful?

Not that there's anything I can do to change it, but I was just curious...

    Thanks for any input.

There is not really any significant advantage, especially when compared to the lower range Socket P Memrons. Keep in mind that 533/667 MHz FSB also extend into the Santa Rosa platform....

I guess I was more curious about the comparison between, let's say, a T7200 (2 GHz, 667 MHz or whatever they use to measure FSB speed) in a Napa platform vs a T7300 (2 GHz, 800 MHz) in a Santa Rosa...

In that config, does the Santa Rosa buy a whole lot?

And thank you for the quick reply...

It is not a big draw back. The bandwidth of the Santa Rosa is better, make no mistake on that. Does it matter? Depends what you do? I would say SR RAM,bandwidth is about 3,400MB/s vs about 3,100MB/s /3,200MB/s for Napa.
