Hello NBR!
I have a few questions!
I'm in doubt for what the best upgrade for me can be.
Anyway, I'm going to upgrade my RAM to 6 or 8GB. Don't ask "what are you going to use that for" etc etc etc. Because, I have alot of times runned out of RAM![]()
But I have a question about this, now my RAM -modules are at 1066Mhz, I wonder if I can upgrade to a higher Mhz -modules? Or wil it downclock to 1066Mhz because my CPU is at 1066Mhz ?
I allready have an SSD drive, and this made a huge diffrence for me, even in everyday use. For loading programs, boot into Windows etc.
So, what do you suggest me to do as first step?
Go for CPU upgrade? Ram upgrade? Or something else?
Thanks for reading![]()
EDIT:
I for got this. I also want to replace my screen with something with higher resolution. What is the highest I can go? Any possibility for HD?
-
It will down-clock, all your ram sticks gotta be running at the same speed!
-
-
I understood your CPU can handle ram running at 1333Mhz, But I couldn't find a trustworthy source. But it should work. The difference is not really noticeable though, it's about 5% faster..!
-
The 5% is gold for me. Thanks for your answer
Can anybody confrim this? -
I'm fairly certain that the speed your RAM will run at is dependent on your chipset and its memory controller, as opposed to your CPU (since you don't have an i-series or AMD with their integrated memory controllers). The thing is, even if your RAM is 5% faster, since your system can't take advantage of the extra speed, you won't notice it being faster. It's like driving a race car at the speed limit, sure it can go faster, but since you're limited by the speed limit, you won't notice its ability to run faster.
As for a better screen, if your X300 ever came in a version with a better screen, then you could likely upgrade to that one, but if not, it's a bit of a crap shoot trying to match connectors and find one that will match up. -
So it won't downclock but it won't run at full speed either?
So, what about if I buy RAM modules with higher Mhz (Speed? lol) and lower timings ?
My x300 came with 1440x900 -
No, what I'm saying is that it (might) run at full speed (will depend on your chipset), but even if it does, I doubt you'd notice in anything other than a benchmark, because no matter how fast your RAM runs, because it will have to wait on something else (and, in fact, even now usually it'll be waiting on something else), you're still limited to the speed of whatever is slowest that it's waiting on (because that's almost never the RAM). Faster speeds and lower timings won't help except in benchmarks, because, again, the limiting factor is almost certainly not the RAM in the first place.
As for the screen, I wasn't asking what your x300 came with, I was asking more what are/were available as options for it. If a 1440x900 screen was the highest resolution screen ever offered for the x300, chances are good you won't be able to upgrade past that, at least not easily. -
Okay, well since I'm anyway going to upgrade my RAM I'm going to buy something with lower timings and higher Mhz, just because to try this out and see if my Chipset can handle it. In worst case it will only run at 1066Mhz anyways. Thanks for the replies Judicator, I wonder how long RAM -modules at for example 1333 must wait for my T9600 tou. And I allready have SSD drive, so I don't need to worry about that either. My Qosmio has GM45 chipset btw.
I know 1440x900 isin't max for this thing, but is there any other x300/305 owners who has tried to upgrade their screen? -
Are you sure you have the GM45, and not the PM45 chipset? Intel specifications say the GM45 chipset only supports DDR3 at 667 MHz, while the PM45 chipset supports DDR3 at 667, 800, and 1033 MHz. This probably means that higher timings will downclock to 1033 MHz, assuming you have the PM45.
I finally broke down and got unlazy enough to do a little searching, and the X300 supposedly should come with the PM45 chipset, and with a possibility for a 1680x1050 screen. If you could find out what model of screen that is, there's a chance you could upgrade to it without too much trouble.
Another possible upgrade would perhaps be to Windows 7, since a lot of people seem to say that makes things run better as well. -
I just did a search too (Few hours ago) I was going to update my Chipset driver and I found x300-13o (My model) on a page, it was something like review. But not in english tou. I'm going to search again.
-
If it helps, the 1680x1050 screen apparently came on the X300-Q725, which also happened to sport a quad core CPU. I'm not entirely certain the quad core would be a viable upgrade for you, though, there may have been actual physical hardware revisions as well between the -Q725 and your -13o.
-
Yep, you're right. It is Mobile Intel PM45 Express and not GM45.
I still have two difrrent sources saying two diffrent Chipsets. But after what it says at Intel and what you wrote, my laptop has PM45.
The diffrences between X300 and X305 is that some of the models has nVidia and others Intel Chipsets. The models which has Intel chipsets seems to support QX9300 but the nVidia based models does not.
We have discussed this hundred of times here;

BTW: The Part number for my laptop is: PQX32E-00D00MN5

Ah, yes. Sorry about that.
-
So, then now we know that something over 1066 Mhz would downclock to 1066 Mhz. That 1680x1050 exists.
I wonder if the FULL HD 1920x1080 is available for my model; Anyone? -
1920x1080 is a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 16:10; you'd be looking for 1920x1200 for FHD. However, I doubt there was a 1920x1200 version of the X300.

Thank you!

1. You RAM's max speed will be 1066MHz as u have PM45 chipset which supports RAM running at 1066MHz at most so DDR3-1333MHz RAM is useless..
2. You should be able to use QX9300 and overclock your CPU as i do know that Qosimo X300 can overclock QX9300.
3. For screen , the 1920X1200 option is the best.
4. You might be able to use 2 GPU's so another 9800M GTX will work..
But really , these upgrades will cost as much as getting a new laptop so why not just get a new Qosimo X505... or Asus G73 or Asus W90 if u want an 18.4 incher...
