Hello,
I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice. I have several laptops, but the Dell Latitude 510/610 has started to make a loud shrilling noise when Windows is booting. (once the background screen comes up and before anything is loaded into memory) I've tried taking out the memory, testing one then the other. I tested memory in the top slot and the machine light went on when I started it, but immediately went off. Then, I put one stick of memory in the bottom slot, it started up, but once the desktop background screen came up, it started the loud noise again. When this happens, all I can do is turn it off.![]()
Based on the searches I did online, it looks like this laptop is only worth about $250 or so (assuming it works). However, I have a matching flat screen monitor and docking station. I am wondering if any of you might know why this is happening to my laptop, and if anyone has any recommendations on what I should do with the laptop (fix or sell). How much is the entire system worth? I need to get my files off if it though, so I'd like to get it going at least enough to get my data. (I do have a backup of my data from a couple months ago though).![]()
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!![]()
Thanks,
Barbara
