My niece has had trouble installing a printer and asked me to help. When I plug the printer into the computer I get the following error message'

An error occurred during the installation of the device.
    The RPC server is unavailable.

Her system is a Dell Inspiron 600m, Celeron 1.4, 256 MB ram and Windows XP Service Pack 2. The printer is a Lexmark X7550. Can someone help me with this problem? Thank you in advance.

Check to be sure that the RPC service is enabled. Click on Start --> Run --> services.msc

I just checked it and the RPC was set to automatic and the RPC Locator is set to Manual.
