    Need Help upgrading Sony T Ultrabook Hard drive upgrade

    Hi everyone,

    I have a sony t series ultrabook svt151a11l running windows 10 (free upgrade from windows 8), lately my hard drive has been spinning hard and making loud noise esp during startup. My laptop has 24gb ssd (which in my understanding is a cache-only) and 750gb hdd (where windows is installed). I've been wanting to upgrade to ssd. Any idea if it's a straight swap, or is there anything particular that I should know before upgrading?

    *Do i leave the 24gb ssd attached, and swap the hdd with new ssd?

    I read in other forums that sony bios is difficult to deal with for this laptop.

    I also would like to clone my hdd to ssd so i can keep the original copy of windows 10 currently installed.

    Please help me as this laptop is my daily driver which contains important data for my work.

    I have never had a problem activating Win10 on a laptop that shipped with Win8/8.1.

    I would replace the HDD with an SSD, remove the SSD cache, because they where known to fail and render the system unbootable due to the way they interact with the system, Asus was notorious for this.

    Then, clean install of WIn10 into the new SSD and copy anything you want with a SATA to USB adapter from the original HDD before it fails.

    While you are in there, and if you see the need, upgrade the RAM, and do a repaste and clean the heatsink.

    hi senso thanks for ur response. do u have any experience doing that before? would there be an issue if i remove the ssd cache?

    The SSD cache only works if you install the Intel Rapid Start, and by the looks of this and other threads it doesn't work in Windows 10:

    There are work arounds, and you can force it to work more or less, but it wont be ever as fast as just using a native SSD.

    I remove plenty from the Asus N551JK and brother models.
