    Need Help with Reflow GPU using T862++

    I have been trying to find anyone who has a table of heat settings and duration of re-flow times for different BGA's like Intel North bridge and South bridge. Mainly video chips is what I need the information on. I have several HP DV-6 laptops with no video and purchased this machine to repair. If I fix 6 out of the 8 laptops it will pay for itself ( only paid $275.00) for the T862++. I have an extensive amount of electronics equipment, but no experience or training, so I thought someone out there might be able to steer me in the right direction. I know this machine is cheap but I think it will do what I need done. Please help me any way you can! Thank you in advance for the help![/COLOR][/B]

    Well, first you need to find out what type of solder the BGA package you want to reflow uses, it either contains lead (easier to reflow) or is lead free(ROHS),both of these will use different temperature profile for reflow.

    What are you going to use for the process ? Since you are asking this question,I'm assuming you are going to improvise with a heat gun or a cooking oven ? If so, reflowing a lead free package will be near impossible.

    I found a chart of the The lead-free alloy used for BGA solder balls has a melting point of 217°C. This alloy requires a minimum reflow temperature of 235°C to ensure good wetting. solder with 63% tin and 37% lead composition and a melting point of 183°C. I need to find the type of solder I am trying to reflow like you said. I am using a t862++ BGA machine we just purchased. We bought a cheap unit to get our feet wet so to speak. Here is the tables I got: http://www.altera.com/literature/an/an353.pdf. The machine instructions say the temp range for a 30mmx30mm chip is 300 to 350 c which I believe will fry the entire chip! I like your chart the best as it quickly shows the Temp ramp in Time to the melting point of Pb based solder. This graph shows a melting point of 235c correct? Would this be Non-Lead based solder instead of Lead based solder? Thanks for helping us out with our dilemma. Let me know if you think of anything else I should know or acquire. Phil

    Why don't you just experiment on 1 board. Time it and keep trying to remove the chip every once in a while.

    Hi guys! I have a problem with Hp Presario CQ65-160SQ> northbridege ATI Radeon HD 4200 working fine after reflow. Then, after 1 weeks I got a black screen. Every 3 time of reflowing. Now I.m not shutting down my laptop about 3 weeks and it working fine. My question is> Why my laptop keep working? What if there is a problem with bios diagnostic? Can someone tell me if BIOS can be modified to jump over that GPU failure ?

    It keeps working because turning it off and back on causes thermal cycling (everything cools down and then heats back up), which doesn't happen if it just stays on.

    But, about the Bios, can be forced to start without checking the integrity of GPU? ​
