    Hi,

I want to upgrade my Dell XPS 15 laptop.
I have the below processor and ram.

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T7500
    RAM: 2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM

I want to upgrade to 4gb ram.. What are the options available? Which are the compatible rams?
Should I go with only 667MHz? Can i increase the speed?

    Please help.

Any set of 2x2gb DDR2 RAM with a speed of 667 mhz or higher will work. If it's higher than 667 speed but that's all your computer will support, it will automatically downclock itself to be compatible.

Are you talking about the XPS M1530? The new XPS 15 has Core i7 and DDR3 memory.

As stated above, any 4 GB will work. If you buy faster RAM it should automatically downclock.

    Thanks ppl..

Does that mean that, even if I buy a 1033mghz ram , the clock speed will reduce to 667.. that is there is no point buying a ram with clock speed more that 667 right ??

and one more question ... are there 4g ddr rams available at 667 ?

First and foremost find out what processor your laptop has. Are you sure it's a Core 2 Duo? If so the memory it supports is defined by the northbridge chipset. Take a look at this link below for a list of Intel chipsets and what memory they support:

What is the maximum capacity and type of memory supported by my Intel mobile chipset laptop?

If it's not powered by a Core 2 Duo albeit one of the newer i5 mobile CPU's then the processor dictates what RAM is supported etc. If yours has a i5 processor then the below link will be relevant instead:

What is the maximum capacity and type of memory supported by my Intel Core i5 mobile processor based laptop?

Either way make sure what model of XPS 15 you have and act accordingly.

If you indeed have the T7500 CPU its most likely the XPS M1530 which uses Core 2 Duo CPUs. You'll need to get DDR2 SODIMMs, you can get DDR@-667 or 800 memory. The chipset of that laptop (Intel Santa Rosa 965) has a FSB of 800mhz, but even if you use 800mhz memory it always runs RAM at 667mhz, so the only advantage of getting 800mhz is if it runs at lower CAS timings such as the Kingston HyperX modules which run at 4-4-4-12 @ 667mhz rather than the more usual 5-5-5-15. However I don't think the cost is really worth it.

The Santa Rosa chipset can take up to 8gb RAM, but make sure your M1530s BIOS is up to date.

lol it will be 4GB on sade side... it might take 8GB but not going to help.. 4GB is enough.. get the cheapest since all RAM is similar.
