    Well what i can get from her is that while using the laptop a tab popped up "new updates from dell" and she dowloaded bc she is not the smartest. Then she chose restart later. she left and when she came back it was on a black screen with a download bar that never fully goes to full and and 2 options.
    f2=setup
    f12=boot menu

    neither do anything when pressed.
    i have restarted many times as well taken out the battery etc..
    keeps going to that screen

    What to do? Thanks

    Well, it is pretty obivious what your mom did. Have you tried reintalling the OS but do not do a clean install. My aunt did a simular thing, I was able to recover her important stuffs and did a clean install after that. Before doing this, please wait for other members to answer it, maybe they will have better options.

    Thanks. How would i reinstall the OS when the first screen it goes to is this screen? Cant get past it and it immediatlly routes to this screen on startup.

    Anyone else?

    Hit f12 to enter boot options, then put in the windows cd and choose boot from cd. That should get you to the windows installer.

    i would repair it instead of reinstalling it. By repairing it she has a chance of her documents being saved

    When you get into the Windows Install CD menu it gives you a Repair option
