I own a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384 laptop. I have two questions.

    1. I was told my upper limit on memory is 4gig. Is this correct?

    2. I was told I could use not only PC 4200 533mhz but that PC 5300 667mhz would also work. My question is, will the PC 5300 667mhz work at its rated speed or simply run a 533mhz and I therefore have wasted my money purchasing it?

Also, where is the best and cheapest place to buy this memory?

Thanks for any help you can give.

    John

Newegg.com is the place to buy. Yes most laptops are capped at 4gigs of ram, not that anyone really needs more than that.
You should be able to use pc5300, your chipset should support it.

Many thanks. I went to the site and found the following among many.
    Patriot - $28.99 after rebate
    Kingston - $42.99
    Transcend - $33.99
    A-Data - $32.99

Quite a range. Is the Patriot any good or should I just go with Kingston?

I would go for the cheapest one since laptop ram is basically all the same(they all should have a lifetime warranty so your pretty much safe).

Also, I believe the Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384 uses the Intel Mobile 945 chipset so it will be limited to ~3GB(even with a 64bit OS).

533MHz and 667MHz RAM perform about the same actually, so go with what's cheaper. Also, even if your chipset supports 667MHz (which it probably does) if you have a 533MHz FSB processor then it will still downclock.
