Friends I have a trusty 2006 model Presario C306us that does a good job for such humble specs. I'd like to give it a new fan, as the current one of late is getting noisy and noisier when it runs.

can someone suggest an outstanding replacement that is whisper-quiet?

Usually HP only has 1-2 model fans you can replace it with. The reason why it gets noisy is because the internal fan bearings are about to give up, likely due to bad dust contamination. Most HP's require you to flip over the motherboard to gain access to the fan.
