I am going to get a new laptop with a large screen and would like to be able to connect a 30" monitor to it and have it display the 2550x1600 native to the monitor. What does the laptop need to have to be able to do this? I would prefer a laptop with a 17" or 18.4" screen with good resolution, if anyone has any suggestions for that.

    Thanks so much,
    Jason

any 17 inch laptop will be able to do so but for the resolution u want to play at , u need a laptop like a strong GPU.. example would be Asus G73 or Sager NP8790 with ATI 5870... about $1500-2000.

Are you sure? I don't think 30" monitors have a VGA port, which is the only port apart from HDMI that the G73 (for example, most notebooks have only VGA). Anyway, the VGA DAC isn't really good enough to drive 2560 x 1600 at a good enough quality anyway...

I suppose OP could get an HDMI to Dual Link DVI or Displayport adapter...

Find a notebook with a DisplayPort adapter. I think Dell has a couple.

You need a laptop with HDMI 1.3 or Display Port to be safe and output directly the the panel, VGA would work too but since its been around so long not all VGA laptops can do that resolution.

But yeah best thing to do is look up the max resolution of the video card on the laptop you want, then see what interfaces that laptop has.

HDMI is ideal since it carries the audio & video.

doesn't the Asus G73 fit the catergory? It does have a HDMI port...
