Any good...does anyone have any other good suggestions?

I'm looking for something that is USB2.0 but also has the option to go to eSATA in the future. Someday I might upgrade my dock or notebook and get an eSATA ExpressCard. eSATA isn't required, but nice.

I'm looking to pair this with a big 320-400GB IDE hard drive.

I've seen some very favourable reports on that NexStar 3 enclosure, it's probably the pick of the bunch if you're after something with eSATA. I'll probably be buying one of these once I stop procrastinating and buy my new notebook.

It takes SATA (rather than PATA) drives by the way.

    SATA 3.0 or SATA 1.5? I'm guessing 3.0.

I own that enclosure and I'd recommend it. As TedJ said, you do need a sata drive to pair with this enclosure as it does not use IDE. The nice thing about the enclosure is that it's all aluminum and dissipates heat rather well without a fan.

Could someone do a test of that drive enclosure using HD Tune? I want to see if the bandwidth is better than my current enclosure which is in dire need of a capacity upgrade.

I also own the NexStar 3 enclsure you linked. I have both the 2.5" and 3.5" versions and they are both wonderfully made and they look awesome. Very sleek.
