Im at a loss as to the status quo on msata or even SSDs. So what brands out there are both reliable and fast? I need the computer to be quick, but also I need to be able to rely on this laptop for at least another 3 years. Im looking for at least 120GB and a budget of $170. Thanks yall!

Strong: Why does it need to be strong? What do you want the drive for? To lift weights? :D

Fast = Sandforce based drives and some of the Marvel based ones such the Crucial m4 and the Plextor.

There is no status quo. Only different opinions. Some argue that Sandforce based drives are not reliable; others might argue the same about Marvel and Intel based drives. Given this, it would be safe to assume that a drive (SSD or spindle--after having sent back 3 failed Western Digital drives in the last three months) is only as reliable as one's backup software and backup habits.

On this board you will find that SSDs from Samsung, Intel and Crucial are considered reliable by many. The Samsung and Crucial drives come with 3yr warranty, some Intels with 5 yr warranty and Plextor with 5yr. So go for any of them. They all fit w/in your three year time frame and of course, be sure to backup everything regularly.

Now let's just hope you aren't in the unlucky bunch that got problems with SandForce. Issues are mostly fixed, but still out of 5 SSDs, the only one that decided to stop working properly was a SandForce drive.

You likely won't have any problems though.

I hope so. I will be keeping my current install for a little while so I can see if the drives works out. If it doesnt I can just pop it back in and go to my current setup.

LoL I almost pooped myself until I saw it was a regular SSD.

Hopefully, it won't die like my SF-2281 drive. It died after i decided to re-use the 64GB M4 i had in my desktop before. Thankfully, i could still read the drive.
