I have a Iomega My Book World Edition 2TB NSD where we store all of our music, pictures and videos and create occasional manual backups of all our computers. I would like to have a backup drive just in case which can be connected via USB to the NSD. Which one would you advice, and is there specific software that can mirror the drives? Also, what is the best software to automatically backup our critical files that we define (customize) from each computer to the NSD?

As always, thanks for your support!

FYI, NSD = Name Server Daemon. (I think)You're talking about a NAS (Network Attached Storage). Also, that link is to Western Digital, not Iomega.

As far as backing it up, why not just hook it up to your computer via USB cable and copy directly, and/or use a regular backup utility to backup the files? Just about anything will do it. Some routers help you backup the contents of the NAS, but it takes a bit of command line funk with rsync.

Thanks Woofer, I thought NSD stood for Network Storage Device but what do I know... and indeed it is a WD.

Just to clarify, the NAS is connected to my wired network and my question is actually twofold:

    1) The WD has a USB port to add an extra drive if needed. What I want to do is attach a second drive to the WD NAS that completely mirrors what is on the NAS. Any recommendations for hardware/software combo to make this happen?

    2) Is there a piece of software that can automatically sync certain folders on any cpu attached to the home network to the NAS overnight?

    Thanks for the help.
