As the title says, I need some knowledgeable advice on Copper Shims specifically the size (L x W) and thickness to get for Sandy Bridge CPU, NVIDIA 500M Series GPU and HM65 Chipset.

System Specs (that I want the Copper Shim mod on):

    Lenovo Y570
    i3-2310M
    GT 555M
    HM65

I want Shim's on all the above chips (CPU, GPU and Chipset) and will applying IC Diamond as thermal compound. I need to know most importantly the length x width for each of the chips stated above, the thickness is not as important but if someone knows please do advise.

    Thanks for the reply,

I think I'll pass on the Copper Shim mod on the Lenovo. I've reapplied thermal paste on many laptops even without shims to cover the gaps and have never had any problems, I just wanted to be a little extra this time around with my Y570 but looks like I'm just going to stick to my old routine except with IC Diamond this time.

However, I may look into getting some computer BGA heatsinks with thermal adhesive tape and stick them onto the laptop's heatsink like what you've done. Looks like it may drop a Celsius or two by doing so plus they're pretty easy and cheap to get on Ebay.

    Thanks,

A mod has to change the main subject. Just click the little triangle with exclamation point and ask to change subject. Voila... done.
