    Need advice on cpu upgrade.

    Hi,
    ty for taking the time to try and help. My girlfriend has a sony vaio vgn-fs415e and would love to put a faster cpu in, preferably a dual core.Can it be done with the chipset, if not do you know what is the fastest cpu i could put in?
    Any advice or experience gratefully recieved as I only know how to abuse laptops annd i love abusing my Dell m1710 :).

    Unfortunately not. The Celeron-M 390 in this model is based on a Pentium-M and has a different socket configuration and chipset to a Core Duo cpu. As such upgrading to a Core Duo isn't possible, but you could try a Pentium-M. A 2.0 GHz Pentium-M with 533MHz FSB would still be a very good upgrade being around 30% more powerful. You would also be able to extend your battery life with this upgrade as the Pentium-M features speedstep, which clocks down the cpu when it's full power is not being used and hence saves battery power.
