Hi A friend gave me a older notebook. A Gateway 450sx4.I know a good bit about Amd desktops but very little about Intel or notebooks.I upgraded the memory and will upgrade the Hd when I see one cheap enough.I would like to upgrade the Cpu but can't find much good info on this relating to this notebook.I have the P4-m 1.6ghz 400fsb 512L2 Cpu.I believe the notebook also came with up to 2.2ghz. The chipset is Intel 845mz.I think i should be safe getting a 2.2ghz but would like a bigger increase than that. That line/generation of Cpu went up to 2.6ghz 400fsb 512L2.Am I correct in thinking that it(the 2.6) would most likely work in this notebook.Intel's next Cpu's came out at 533 and 800fsb,could they work with my motherboard 400fsb?Those Cpu are so cheap on ebay now, that if it might work I will get it.So can I get some opinions,on what's the best I can do for this notebook.Thank you

The Intel P4-M 2600MHz processor with a 400MHz FSB is the fastest processor you are going to get for your system.

Good luck finding one, I have been looking for one for years. I eventually settled with the 2400MHz P4-M which I bought for $24

Your system most likely has a PATA storage drive. You may want to upgrade your harddrive to the Samsung HM160HC if you want to get the most speed out of your laptop

Here is my review of the drive:

    The 2.4Ghz P4-M, 2GB PC3200 and a HM160HC makes my Dell Inspiron 8500 fly
