I am new to forum, so please excuse me if this question has been asked. Just to make sure, I searched the forum with no answer.
I want to upgrade a laptop which was bought in late 2007, a Toshiba Equium L40-14I. I have upgraded desktops before, but never laptops. I saw a guide on how to upgrade a L40 toshiba in one of the threads on here, so I will follow that.
Cause it's old, I don't know if it's Intel Celeron M 530 Processor (M socket) is upgradable or compatible with other processors. Plus having problem figuring out the make of the motherboard.
Can someone please help me find out if any newer processors will fit on, or any links to threads explaining this. Thanks

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
It being a GM965 you theoretically can upgrade to any 800 FSB Core 2 Duo but I would run CPU-Z and take a screenshot on your chipset before doing so. There is also an issue if your BIOS will support it.

It could take a T7600 or something in Socket M too. I would however take a screenshot of CPU-Z too.

Here is screenshot of the cpu -z. Hopefully with this information someone will be able to give me details on the fatest cpu the socket can take. Thanks guys!

any of the following should do:
Celeron Dual Core T1400, T1500, T1600
Pentium T2310, T2330, T2370, T2390
Core 2 Duo T5250, T5450, T5550, T5800. T7100, T7250, T7300, T7500, T7700, T8100, T8300, T9500, T9500...
The following Pentiums and Core 2 Duos might or might not work:
T3200, T3300, T3500, T4200, T4300, T4400, T4500, T6400, T6500, T6600...
Check my sig for how to take the laptop apart. The one I played with had a T2330 CPU and was upgraded to a T2370 (a marginal upgrade). -
Thanks Naton. Another question, From what I have read, all gl960's can accept socket P processors. How come mine has a socket M processor on a socket P chipset? And any possible pin mods i could make cosidering it's an intel chipset?
-
the celeron M 530 is socket P
the celeron M 400 series and the M520 are socket M
You can pin mod a Celeron either single core or a dual core with the intel chipset. I modded a Celeron like yours to 2.6GHz by increasing the FSB from 133 to 200. Check my sig (VID and BSEL mods...), it explaines how I did it.
I also pin modded a Celeron T1400 from 1.73 to 2.2Ghz. I could not go any higher.
Something you need to watch for is the RAM. Some laptops can adjust the CPU/Ram ratio but other can't. -
Thanks, It is very silly what they did writing that a celeron M 530 was a socket M instead of socket P! Thank God, i didn't go out and spend money on something that wouldn't have worked. I will know look to use the mods.
