i tried to search for any guides on rams but i didnt find any so decided to post a thread. specs on my sig.

i currently have 2 x 1GB of g. ddr2 so-dimm pc5300 on my laptop. cant tell if its in dual channel or not or is it even applicable for dual channel.

question is... whats the difference if i try to replace it with the same dimm but 1 X 2GB (for no reason at all).

also, whats the difference between single channel and dual channel?and difference if i use 1x2 gb or 2x1 gb?

any suggestions on what brand is good for my laptop?

need really help on this. thanks in advance

Being dual channel has nothing to do with the memory itself. If you get two sticks of the same size and speed, it will run in dual channel mode. Kingston, Crucial and Corsair care considered top brands. I've always had good luck with off brands.

As long as it's the same size and speed of memory, it should run in dual channel mode. The important thing is to get more memory. Dual channel is nothing to get excited over, but offers a modest performance increase.
