Hello. I have a acer travelmate 2423wxci . The keyboard is bad and they (Best Buy) wanted to charge me $300 to change it out. I found a new one on line for $35 and need help changing it out. I have it unscrewed & the ribbon cable is dangling from the motherboard, but there is a piece still conected (drive in the bay?). How do I get it released from the motherboard? Someone please help. Take a picture of the connector and post back here.
You probably have to slide the middle part (which has small tabs sticking on the left and right) of the connector out. -
Are you referring to a small flat cable which connects to the motherboard?
If yes, that cable is called a "ribbon cable"
They are usually connected to the motherboard by a small clip.
These clips look like this
there are two kinds of clips, the kind which is in the picture, where you need to push the two small clips out horizontally (parallel to the motherboard)
and the kind which have a plastic presser on it
Simply lift up on the small plastic clip with a flat head screwdriver or your finger nail.
It will release. Than simply unplug the keyboard, and do the reverse for installing the new one
