Alright so my dad said he had this happen to his old Toshiba laptop back in 97 and it was a cable issue and all that needed to be done was to replace the cable. I was wondering if anyone else here has seen this and knows if its a cable issue or what. It is like the contract on this section of the screen has gone to the max because with brightness it stays the same as if it was a contrast and not a brightness issue...plus if it was an LED that was malfunctioning it would be bleeding, which makes me thing its a cable issue or something else. Anyone got ideas because in my 15 years or whatever of computers i have never seen this or heard of this besides my dad saying its a cable problem. I am hoping it is as easy as replacing a cable but I wanted to get second opinions before going through the effort and finding out it was fruitless.
edit it is all one solid bar....that middle gray line and section to the right is the same brightness as the other half...the camera just made the bar look two different shades (or maybe its a shadow of me not sure). It is all one brightness that goes from the top to the bottom and is a perfect rectangle of maybe 1/5 of my screen

*BUMP* does anyone know where this screen issue is coming from? Is it cable related or GPU or is it just a bad screen

I'd try replacing the cable first, they're fairly cheap.

may I say that I find it kind funny the way you expressed your problem, so I'm adapting the same expression for the next couple weeks. So I can say that today my co-workers cars front tire went wako
but to your problem - try slapping your monitor like the good old days, may help with bad connection somewhere, lol. But I doubt it. -

side note I think its wacko from trying to sound it out lol...i am a tard when it comes to spelling lol.
BTW I think its from my screen being loose and wobbling so much....it has a ton of play....so fragile :/ -

To replace the cable you need to open the display anyways. When you do it, take some time to examine all the screw positions and hinges for broken pieces. Move display front and back a bit to see where else it moves than the actual hinge. You'll see if you need to order extra spare parts
