    I bought an Asus G1S-X1 core2duo T7300 2ghz, 2gb ram, 160hd, etc...
I got it really cheap(under $600). I want to upgrade the processor. Im getting a deal on a Intel core2duo T7800 2.6ghz(info below). So is it possible to swap out the T7300 for a T7800 on G1S-X1. Please let me know so I can buy the processor before its sold to someone else. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible, but you won't notice a performance increase in overall performance, only in CPU-intensive tasks.

A T8300/T9300 will be a better upgrade, as they have a better voltage tolerance, and run slightly cooler.

Unless the CPU is bottlenecking the computer's performance (in intensive applications), a CPU upgrade won't help you in anyway.

So it'll be a perfect fit as far as the socket goes. Will there be any soldering involved? Would I need thermal compound and or a thermal pad? Can I swap it with a Quad core processor? Thanks.

Yes, it will fit just fine. No soldering involved.
Buy AS-5 (thermal paste) and Arti-Clean. If there is a thermal pad under the CPU heat-sink, no need to apply AS-5.
No, you cannot swap it for a Quad-Core. That platform only supports dual-core cpus.

Thanks Andy. Got another question which is off this topic. If I wanted to, in the future, would I be able to upgrade the GPU. If I ever decide to upgrade I would want to go for the 8800m GT. Would it be possible. . If it involved a lot of soldering then I would leave it alone. Open to other GPU suggestions as well. Thanks.

I don't know about ASUS systems. If it has an MXM-slot, the GPU upgrade should be possible. You should post this question in the ASUS forum.

i highly doubt any ammount of soldering will help you switch GPUs,, unless your current GPU is in an MXM slot then you cannot upgrade it......

i had heard RUMORS of an external GPU ASUS was working on,, but last i heard they were having some serious problems getting it to work properly!

Getting back to my original question about the Processor, if I swap the processor out for a different one, will I run into a bios issue? If so, will flashing the bios before swapping the processor work or is there another method.

The T7300 and the T7800 belong to the same family, so the BIOS should recognise it without an update. If you want to be on the safe side, update the BIOS to the latest version, before upgrading the CPU.
