Hi,
I have been using a Dell Inspiron 6000 for more than an year. Starting October last year, the power adapter was not charging the laptop properly. It had to be held in a particular position before it started charging. I changed the adapter but to no avail. It seems as if the socket where the adapter's end went in has somehow become larger or dislocated. Can anyone suggest what to do? I am ready to buy any replacement part as long as I am sure it is the one causing problems.
I also searched dell's website but cannot locate the exact cause for this problem. If someone could suggest how to extract the information or provide feedback as to the solution of the problem, I would be gratified.
thanks in advance

it's potentially a problem between the a/c port and the motherboard.
your choices are
1. DIY - disassemble the computer and re-solder
2. Replace the motherboard
option 2 is usually cost prohibitive as a new motherboard is probably a minimum of about $400 (unless you find a deal on ebay or something) + labor. if you can't do option 1 and must do option 2, then you should probably opt for option 3 which is to buy a new computer. -
Thanks! I guess option 3 is easiest!

I had the exact same problem with inspiron 6000. I changed the mother board (probably a no brainer) and everything worked great for 7 months. Now it is back with the same problem. I think there is a design flaw with this model. I will never ever buy another DELL

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Had a similar problem with a second hand Latitude C840; one of the solder joints holding the power jack to the board burned out so the only real options were to replace the board or solder the joint back.
Option one isn't really all that hard (if someone with my crappy solder skills can do it) it's just time-consuming to get it apart and back together. But I think its definitely worth a shot if you need to buy a new computer. -
Maybe you just out of lucky
I used to have the Inspiron 6000 and I sold it to my friend more than a year & half ago. He uses it extensively in the office as it's his main computer; 7-8 hours everyday and it still works great till now.

You are completely correct. I meant to say something on the lines of "it's worth taking a look at and seeing if its an easy fix", but somehow it skipped my mind near the end of the post XD
