Hi, I have an HDTV with HDMI port and my ASUS G1S also has an HDMI port, I've bought the HDMI cable and connected the two together. The picture came out fine but there's no sound out of the TV! somebody please tell me what the problem is and how to solve it!

AFAIK, I thought that HDMI carries both the video and the sound

There's been reports of some HDMI ports on laptops only carrying video, quite frankly making them DVI instead.

I know i had a problem on my new hdtv that would run no sound when i put it on hdmi mode just for normal tv. I had to go into the settings through the cable box and set it to hdmi. Maybe you should look into that. should be a settings key on your cable remote. just a thought

First, as others have said, the HDMI port is probably just carrying video. This happen on some AV receivers as well. Kind of goofy if you ask me as the point of HDMI was to consolidate HD audio and video.

Anyway, what cables are you using to hook your laptop up to the TV for sound?

Stereo cable with one end going into the 3.5mm plug in the laptop and the other going into the component port in the TV

Your TV might not accept audio through HDMI. My 42" Panasonic LCD HDTV Had HDMI Input but it's only for video. Right next to it there's a red and white analog connections for sound.

I dont have an ASUS but as per my hp manual while connecting the HDMI to HDTV, you need to set S/PDIF as the default audio playback device. Otherwise you will not hear any sound out of your TV.

    Hope that helps.

Unless your TV's HDMI port have an option to take RCA input (on most Sharp models), you will not be able to get sound on your TV if the laptop HDMI does not carry audio (the case with the G1S). Connecting the 3.5mm to RCA to the audio port under one for the component inputs will not work as you'll have to switch input tio component to get sound.

Your only option is to connect to an external amp or speaker system like the logitech Z5500

Under your Playback Devices, do you have a HDMI option? You have to select this on my m1330 for audio over HDMI.

yes - this laptop carries audio through hdmi - but like said above, you need to change the audio settings to digital output and not built in speakrs or anything else.
