So I have a friend who has this laptop from 2001 and need files from that hard drive. Is there anyone can tell me what adapter I can get for this laptop hard drive. It is really small, smaller than laptop hard drives nowadays. I checked out the 2.5 to 3.5 adapters and they are too large for this hard drive. Any suggestions?

You could buy a PATA to USB adapter on eBay fairly inexpensively.

Yeah, that i a big difference: PATA (IDE) vs. SATA.

Yours looks like IDE to me (what you linked to wouldn't work).

According to the part number it's a 2.5" pata (IDE) drive.I recommend one of these as it allows you to connect 2.5", 3.5" SATA and IDE drives to USB. There are a lot of different companies selling this type of adapter and they tend to work quite well. I rarely go more than a week without using one of mine on someones drive to recover data.

Thanks but its a 1.8" drive and the link you gave me doesn't have any prongs on the unit. Because as you can tell from the picture that it requires prongs to be connected.

I don't what happened but when I looked up that model number previously it linked to a 2.5" drive. I checked it again and it does come up with a 1.8" with a ZIF socket. The adapter in post number 2 looks like the correct one to me based on the information in the description and the PDF file from Toshiba on that drive.

    Sorry about the mistake.
