I have a hp-compaq persario notebook series v2000. I am in need of help on harddrive upgrade. I had 40gig hd, and bought a new seagate 80gig hd, and having problems with the drive not giving me the whole access. Upon installing this drive I have to DDO- ovelay in oder to boot with windows xp pro. I had looked into the Bios to see if I can make the changes there, but no luck. Is there something I can do about this, or is my notebook only made for 40 gig hd Support?. I am new to the notebook thing, but build reg desktops on a reg basis. If anyone can help with this I would be greatful for the help. Thank you

There should be no limitation on that size. I'm not sure exactly the problem you describe - what do you mean by DDO-overlay?

Dynamic Disk overlay is what DDO stands for. I have contacted hp by E-mail and they say that my notebook can handle up 80 gigs. they have the drives on their site listed @ 420.00. On the old drive (40 gig) I have an adapter that needs to be transferred to the new drive. I put the new drive all together formatted it and loaded windows and it only reads 40 gigs. Not the full 80 gig. I have tried to configure Bios Manually, but there is no luck. In fact no way to configure it at all. upon boot i get a white line then nothing. I would be greatful for anyone that can help me in this matter.

Have you used the Storage Tool? Go into the Control Panel >Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage. You might just have the partition set to small. If you are lucky, you will be able to resize from there. If not, a live CD might do the trick. If you need more info about those, post away!
