I have a VAIO FE550G and the fan on it used to turn on when it got up around 58degrees Celcius according to NHC. Lately I have been feeling it physically getting hot and the fan hasn't been clicking on. Yesterday it was up to 62degrees and no fan. It went back down eventually but I'm a bit concerned.
Is there anyway to manually test my fan to make sure it it still functioning?

Well you should be able to hear when it clicks on. Just let the laptop get a little hot and see if it clicks on. If you are out of warranty I would open up the laptop and make sure that dust hasn't gotten into the fan or heatsinks.
