The ASUS A8JM (my version being the Portable One MX) comes with what is advertised as a "built-in 1.3 Mega-Pixel web camera w/motion detection security." The problem is getting it to do anything.

I have a Logitech QuickCam on my desktop PC, and that came with a ton of abilities and programs. I can open a control panel that lets me adjust (among other things) brightness, contrast, saturation, low-light filter, color boost, recording volume level, audio source, and zoom.

The camera in my laptop does... next to nothing. As for software controls, there is what amounts to an on and off switch. When the camera is on there is an option to take a picture, but no video capture options and none of the options that I listed for my Logitech PC camera.

When I open the camera from My Computer > Vimicro USB PC Camera (VC03210) it starts the camera and offers only two options: Take a new picture, and Delete all pictures from the camera. When I go to Start Menu > All Programs > Vimicro Corporation > VM321, then I have only one option listed: Uninstall (!). I am underwhelmed with possibilities. Not only can't I make any adjustments to the video (like brightness, zoom, or quality), I can't even capture a video clip!

No bundled software for the camera came with the laptop, and I can't find any information on it on the 'net, including the manufacturerÂ’s website. Anyone else have this (or a similar) situation? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I haven't yet checked with P1, and I wasn't sure about posting this in Hardware, Software, ASUS, or the P1 sub-forum.

I have an A7J, and the webcam also comes with no real software. I poked around on the driver CD and found some 3rd-party stuff, but it seemed sketchy. I can, however, adjust brightness/contrast/etc from within webcamming programs, i.e. MSN. Check again that you have some sort of drivers installed for it.
