    Hi,

So here is my problem: Since i bouth my notebook the 09-11-2009, today is the 4th power supply that stop working. I got the others units replace under warranty (thinking they where the problem). They last about 2-3 mounts but it just keep hapening again so its getting obivious that its someting else.

I work as a paramedic and I use my notebook alot in my waiting time (mostly gaming). My Gpu is overclock by about 20%. I use a power inverter (targus) to charge the battery in the ambulance.

-I also motice that the power supply are getting prety hot
-Could the inverter be damaging the power supply over time so it finaly dies after 3 mounth? bye the way, I have use 3 differents inverter in the last year to chek if it could change someting but no.
-Could overcloking the Gpu drain to many watt so it highly reduce the life of the power supply?

Maybe there someting else in the mobo conector... I have an extended warranty but I prefer to ask what you guys think of it before sending my nootebok and losting it for 3-6 weeks.

    Thanks for the help

    Charles

I wonder how clean that power is.say like as you drive and as your alternator revs up maybe it boost the voltage a bit higher and causes more voltage to travel through the power supply causing undo heat eventually death.

agreed.. this must be the issue... my guess is also that the power is not very clean... it must be causing your PSU to break... also i had a Dv6 which is similar to Dv5 and it's PSU nver got just that hot ever... there's something wrong with the power.

Inverters, especially cheap ones are not very well regulated, add to it that you are drawing more power by overclocking is probably not the best thing for the power supplies.

I'm assuming it is the HP notebook in your sig? I have seen lots of crummy HP 90 watt AC adapters go bad, but not 4 in 1 year. I would send off your notebook to get looked at because that is definitely NOT normal.

First, thanks everyone for the quick reply.

So the inverter is probably the source of the problem.

Would a car adapter give a better, cleener power? Like this one here

I found it logic because: 12v DC to inverter witch turn it AC to power supply who turn it back to DC and give it to the notebook, while the car adapter only adjust the volting

I might try it as a last chance before sending the notebook bac to HP.

    Any other idea???
